On Monday afternoon, Burning Man’s exodus line snaked for miles through the Black Rock Desert, but a raging dust storm often prevented drivers from seeing more than a few cars in either direction. Updates to Burning Man Traffic’s account on X suggested wait times of between 4 and 6 hours for much of the day, but that was only from “Greeters to blacktop.” Getting to the Burning Man staff at the event’s perimeter was an hours-long endeavor in itself, as the line was backed up all the way into Black Rock City and moving at a glacial pace.
I had no plans to leave the playa in near-whiteout conditions alongside tens of thousands of other Burners, but to get a sense of what it was like, my partner and I donned the requisite apocalypse gear and biked toward the line. We soon lost our bearings, and the wind blew so hard at times that flying specs of dust stung our bare legs. There were instances where the dust seemed to hover in the air and we could barely see five feet in any direction. Then a gust of wind would rip through, blowing all the dust away at high speeds. The storm had started during the Temple Burn on Friday night, and showed no signs of abating.
Most of the Burners who had camped in our vicinity had already left, but on the way to the line, we encountered Oleksandr Kosinov, a first-time Burner who was securing his bicycle to the back of his vehicle. Shirtless and wearing a gas mask festooned in pink sequins, Kosinov told SFGATE that he’s from Ukraine but was headed back to his home in Southern California. He had no illusions about how much the exit trip was going to stink.

This year DUST STORM.
Next year ???????????....................
Frogs from the sky? Locust? Sulfur and brimstone? Cats and dogs living together?

Are they SURE it was his bicycle?
Can’t we just have a simple bonfire?
ROFL!!!!
Next year ???????????
Frogs? Flies? Boils? (Is "boils" a euphemism for monkeypox?)
I’m guessing the influx was pretty unhinged too.
I imagine that showers and general hygiene were optional at best, so...

Smallpox or any kind of pox..................
I guess Satan’s powers dont include weather control.
This year DUST STORM.
Next year ???????????....................
Fire and brimstone from the sky?
The only reason most people go to Burning Man is to witness who else went to Burning Man. It’s a dumb idea to go anywhere.
Locusts? Or maybe just go straight to fire and brimstone.
To see and be seen...................
Desert dust storms are no joke. I got caught in one driving my open top jeep YJ near Salton Sea in SoCal. Blowing sand blotted out the sun. Took all the paint off my front bumper and ruined my windshield. Changed the oil and air filter after that ride home.
And the activist idiot hippie chick in her sobbing voice, "We are environmental activists!"
Won't post-Apocalyptic life be grand?
(a lot less Gubmint interference, so there's that)
“To see and be seen...............”
Yep.
