CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A 3-year-old child was severely injured after a dog attacked them in northeast Charlotte.
The incident happened on Monday just before 9 p.m. on Monday on Cameron Commons Parkway, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).
Police say a group of children was playing with three dogs outside when two of the dogs playfully knocked the victim to the ground. The third dog then bit the victim and dragged them down the driveway, according to police.
Adult witnesses attempted to stop the attack. Two people fired gunshots near the dog, which caused the dog to stop.
The child suffered serious injuries in the incident. The dog was surrendered to CMPD Animal Care and Control and placed in a 10-day rabies quarantine period. The dog will be euthanized after the quarantine period, according to CMPD.
CMPD is continuing to investigate this incident. Police advise parents to closely supervise children around dogs.
This happened in the University City area of Charlotte.
I’m growing suspicious. A “dog”. What kind of dog?
Was this like “youths” or “teens”? I suspect so.
“The third dog then bit the victim and dragged them down the driveway,”
Dragged “them”?? I truly despise the media and their constant gaslighting.

What FLT Bird said. Most likely #noneedtolook
“A group of children were in the front yard playing when three dogs, owned by the victim’s family, were let out of the garage, according to the investigation.”
From the excerpt it’s not clear if WCNC even knew if the child was a girl or boy.
English lacks a third person singular word, them has been pressed into duty. It may not be gender surrender on the part of WCNC.
Chihuahuas, obviously.
The correct, generic singular was always "he" or "him," regardless of the sex of the subject. At least that's what it USED to be.
If the child’s gender wasn’t apparent, one of the ways to refer to the child would be use “ the child” instead of “they”.
*** “The third dog then bit the victim and dragged them down the driveway,”***
Using “the child” would work, but the media would prefer “them”.
Yep. BUT, would you want to be the one who called a mauled girl ‘he’?
We really need a proper word.
(50:50 chance he’s a she in this case)
Correct on both points.
Right. And if I didn’t know his sex, I would call him “the child,” instead of the ignorant, communist-speak “them.”
The problem is that it sounds faggy. Because of the tranny precedent, it gives the impression that the writer is being coquettishly unspecific out of sheer love of perversity.
I'd fire the reporter. Before you hit "send," get the damn facts, or hit the bricks.
In today’s US, how dare a gun owner interfere with a dog’s rightto have fun.
And what are the dogs’ pronouns?
“Police say a group of children WAS playing with three dogs ...”
Ebonics spell-check installed.
But it doesn’t make “them” correct. “The child” or “the victim” would have been the proper way to go. This writer, I suspect, used “them” intentionally.
There probably wasn’t any writer. Just a television newscast and an automated transcriber.
Let’s guess!
A single individual is not “them” or “they”; the child was a “him,”/”he, or a “her”/”she.” I wish this pronoun abuse would stop. Infuriating.
