Researchers have introduced the world’s fastest battery-charging technology for smartphones. This new technology can fully charge a smartphone in under five minutes.
The 320-watt charging technology, called “320W SuperSonic Charge,” was developed by the Chinese electronics company Realme. This advancement surpasses earlier chargers.
Previously, the smartphone company Redmi, a part of Xiaomi, revealed a 300-watt charger in February 2023. It could charge a device in just 4 minutes and 55 seconds. Until now, no other manufacturer had managed to go beyond this speed, as reported by Live Science.
Realme representatives showcased the new charging technology at the Realme 828 Fanfest event in Shenzhen, China, on August 14th.

The fast-charging technology can charge a smartphone’s battery to 26 percent in just one minute and reach 50 percent in less than two minutes. GSMArena reported that it takes only 4 minutes and 30 seconds to fully charge a smartphone using this technology.

Fast-charging technology differs from conventional charging by powering multiple battery cells at the same time instead of one after another.
During the demonstration, Realme representatives charged a folded battery design with a 4,420 milliampere-hour capacity. This design stacks four cells on top of each other, offering a 10 percent higher capacity compared to traditional designs, according to the company.
Researchers have made each battery cell smaller and layered them to fit more charging power into less space. They then folded four of these cells together, similar to how satellite panels are arranged, as shown in a video shared on the social platform X.
New “Pocket Cannon” to charge other devices The company also created a new power adapter called the “Pocket Cannon,” which is very powerful for its size. It can charge other devices, such as iPhones with a USB-C port, but they won’t charge as fast as the new technology allows.
Last year, the company introduced a 240-watt charger with an adapter that had a power density of 2.34 watts per cubic centimeter. This earlier technology could fully charge the Realme GT Neo 5 smartphone in less than 10 minutes.
The new adapter, however, is even more versatile. The company representatives said that it works with various fast-charging standards, including UFCS, PD, and SuperVOOC. It also features two USB-C ports, allowing users to charge two devices at the same time.
The adapter can deliver up to 150 watts for Realme smartphones and up to 65 watts for compatible laptops.
Realme representatives also introduced the “AirGap” voltage transformer. This device is designed to protect smartphone batteries by isolating high voltages during electrical issues, such as circuit breakdowns. This feature helps prevent any damage to the smartphone.

The slower you charge a battery the safer it is, and the longer it will last.
But does the battery get hot in the process?
They are parallel charging a split battery.
Since their battery is split into 4 blocks, each block is charged using a dc/dc charger that can deliver up to 80W at 1.25v output (64A). Then the 4 battery blocks are connected in series. Each battery contributes 1.25v to create 5v.
What they’ve done is applied high power Point-of-load charging techniques (for cpus for example) to phone battery charging.

Yeah. Based on a YouBoob video, I tried to connect it directly to a 120 volt outlet and then that happened. I expected it would fully charge in only 15 seconds.
I was wrong.
(Actually that was a self-immolating Samsung from a few years ago).
