Nowhere is it stated that first class tickets were actually paid for. That would have been an outrage and I doubt the airline would have taken this action had the tickets been properly paid for.
If all he bought was coach, that’s all he should get.
When you need to inform people that you are a celebrity, you are not a celebrity at all.
There are a lot of cases where airline employees (e.g., pilots moving from one location to another) are able to bump first class passengers. May be the case here, but regardless it does happen frequently
