“Toron Walker” sounds like a Star Wars character’s name ... like a distant cousin of Luke Skywalker.

“If anybody can explain to me where they come up with these names I’d be forever grateful.”

This may help:

My wife was a schoolteacher for decades. One of the things she did on the first day of school was to ask each student the origins of their first names. A black, young lady named Catrice said that her mom was looking in the refrigerator for a bowl of rice. “Catrice” sounds French to me. LOL At that moment her mom looked on top of the refrigerator where the cat was laying. “Cat” and “Rice” hence.....Catrice. The lady went to give birth the following day.

It makes sense, I suppose, but not to any intelligent being. ;-)

I tried to look up an answer to your question, but the first two articles were along the lines of, suck it up, you are racist. When I was hiring people, I read a few articles on finding good candidates. One study floated a large number of duplicate fake candidates for jobs. Same resumes but different names. So, you’d get a resume from Jack Hardy or Tanakaj Jones. The results were exactly what you’d think. The non-black sounding names got significantly more positive response than the ridiculous names. Parents who name their children ridiculous names are handicapping them for life.

Our HR director had a privately funded study on how to minimize the risk of hiring a new employee. This was based on studying employee lawsuits. I don’t recall all of the recommendations but in short, don’t hire a Democrat. Don’t hire someone the government provides a free lawyer to. There were several others don’t based on lawsuits, but I can’t recall them. I want to say weird nonstandard names was on the list, but I can’t be sure.

A lot of African American names are combinations of two parents names. (Or other family members names) Wife Dee Dee, husband Ron, boy Deron.

A teacher friend told me this true story:

On the first day of class she took role call. She came upon a name she did not know how to pronounce, so she asked the student to pronounce her name - Feemollie Higgins the girl said. The teacher looked at the spelling - F e m a l e. She asked the girl how she came to have that name. The girl told her that her momma wanted to name her something different, but the new born already had a hospital wrist tag with the name Female Higgins on it.
