Every graduate of elite NYC Jewish high school avoids Columbia for first time in decades

None of this year’s graduates of an elite Upper East Side Jewish high school will be attending Columbia University’s premier liberal arts college for the first time in decades at least partly because of antisemitism.

“For the first time in over 20 years, we will not have a Ramaz graduate enrolling in Columbia College,” Ramaz said in a statement Sunday to The Post.

One Ramaz student enrolled at Columbia’s school of General Studies, and three students enrolled in Columbia-affiliated Barnard College for women — but none at the college, it said.

Ramaz indicated that anti-Israel protests and hostility toward Jewish students at Columbia during the previous semester had a factor in its graduates not attending Columbia College.

“Ramaz provides as much information as possible about the situation at various colleges of interest, and we have given priority to issues surrounding the horrific rise in antisemitic instances at some schools, so that our students and their families are able to make informed decisions about which colleges are right for them,” a Ramaz rep said in an e-mail.

Rory Lancman, a top Jewish civil-rights activist whose two daughters graduated from Ramaz and who is a Columbia Law School graduate, said he would not recommend Jewish students to apply or attend Columbia at the moment because of Jew-bashing.

“Jewish families are voting with their feet and choosing colleges and universities that take antisemitism seriously,” said Lancman, a former Queens city councilman and the current director of corporate initiatives and senior counsel at the Louis Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law.

“I would not recommend my daughters to apply to Columbia or other colleges that aren’t committed to protect them as Jews,” he said.

Columbia declined comment to The Post on Sunday.

The Ramaz School is an American coeducational Jewish Modern Orthodox day school which offers a dual curriculum of general studies taught in English and Judaic studies taught in Hebrew. The school is located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan in New York City. It has an early childhood center (nursery-kindergarten), a lower school (1st-4th grade), a middle school (5th-8th grade), and an upper school (9th-12th grade).

The Ramaz Upper School is a college preparatory program designed to develop an appreciation for and understanding of the intellectual disciplines that are part of western civilization. The Judaic studies curriculum provides a program through which the religious and cultural tradition of Judaism is both taught and experienced. It is located on East 78th Street, seven city blocks (0.5 km) away from the other two school buildings located on East 85th Street. Approximately fifty percent of the upper school student body advances from the Middle School. Students commute from the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, Westchester, and Nassau counties in New York; Stamford and New Haven in Connecticut; and metropolitan New Jersey.

Founded in 1937 by Rabbi Joseph H. Lookstein through the generosity of New York lawyer and philanthropist Max J. Etra, Ramaz takes its name from the initials of Rabbi Moses Zevulun Margolies, the grandfather-in-law of Lookstein. The former principal, Rabbi Haskel Lookstein, is the son of Joseph Lookstein and was a member of the first class of six students.

After the closing of Finch College, Ramaz bought the college’s campus and renovated the buildings.

Not being able to send your kids off to college in the same area means paying more for a dorm or off-campus housing in a different area.

Haskell Lookstein is a Trump-hater and the family rabbi of the Kushners, who oversaw the conversion of Ivanka. Fortunately, Jared and Ivanka seem much closer to Chabad these days.

That said, there are many English language college degree programs in Israel that welcome Americans. May as well be realistic about the lack of a future for Jews in America.

However, I’d bet there is a good chance that most of them will be voting lockstep for Heels-Up...

The antisemites in these prostitutions of “higher” learning are a disgrace. I’m so ashamed of this country. And we have to pay for the attendance participation certificates for these ahos.

70% will continue to vote for the Democratic Party. The only bloc to vote Republican are Orthodox Jews. Otherwise, nearly all of them are Democratic.

I suspect most American kids want to attend college because it means living in a dorm or off-campus housing. They can finally live away from their parents, where they can party and do sex, drugs, and alcohol to their hearts' content.

Most American kids wouldn't see the point of college if it meant living at home. For them, it's a four-year vacation, paid for with student loans.

I think that's how the majority of American kids see it. A four year vacation, without job or financial responsibilities, away from parental supervision.

Why? It's the same university it was on October 6th.

Oh, that's right - they can't be seen publicly supporting it.

Ok, well, that’s nice and all, but — For whom will they be voting? I’d take a bet that says 95% or more pull the lever for Cackles.

Of course.

But they are what, 2 percent of the population?

And a large number are in already solidly blue states.

They affect the FL race probably.

And house members in their districts.

They are the LAST group that we have to be concerned about....blacks, Hispanics and even Asians hold much larger numbers.

Not really considering Columbia is private and charges outrageous amounts anyway. You’d be right if you were talking about state schools and in-state vs out of state tuition but for private super expensive schools like Columbia.....if their parents can afford to send them there they can afford to send them to Duke or Vanderbilt or a really good state school like UVA, Texas, UNC, UF, etc...the latter even out of state will still be a lot cheaper than Columbia.

That's not true everywhere in America. Its not true for example, in red states. My alma mater, UF has more Jewish students than any other University in America. Fully 20% of the student body is Jewish. People have a right to free speech that will be respected BUT the rules will be enforced against any attempt to pitch tents on campus, to block students from any part of campus, any assault on any student or police, etc. (unlike in the Ivy League). The Leftist Jew Hate has not infected all of America - just the blue Shit holes.

It will be very interesting to see the breakdown on Jewish votes in this election. It is not beyond denying that the hatred directed against Jews comes from the Left - NOT from MAGA. Let’s see if Jewish Americans are prepared to face that fact.

most of these kids will be coming from wealthy families, and going to school out of state is a very broadening experience in the first place ...

“Rory Lancman, a top Jewish civil-rights activist”

I wonder if he still thinks it’s Trump supporters that are his biggest threat.
