Democratic convention to highlight Harris’s rise amid turbulent ’24 race
The Washington Post ^ | August 17, 2024 at 12:18 p.m. EDT | Toluse Olorunnipa

One month ago, Democrats watched with envy and dismay as Republicans demonstrated their energy and unity with a lively party convention that showcased Donald Trump’s dominant position in the race against President Joe Biden.

Now, after one of the most momentous shifts in political atmospherics in modern history, Democrats have been buoyed by a new standard-bearer and sense of optimism as they prepare to begin their own nominating convention Monday in Chicago.

Biden will speak on the first day of the convention before leaving town, a symbolic changing of the guard that highlights how his decision to abruptly end his reelection bid upended the race.

Vice President Kamala Harris, who has ridden a wave of enthusiasm in a party that had been riven by angst over Biden’s weak poll numbers, will cap the programming Thursday with a speech designed to introduce herself to the nation and highlight the historic nature of her unexpected candidacy. The unprecedented turn of events has added to the sense of unpredictability that has marked an election already rocked by a history-changing debate, one candidate’s felony convictions and an assassination attempt during a political rally.

“It is remarkable,” said Julian Zelizer, a presidential historian at Princeton University. “An incredibly important election, which made the Democratic convention interesting from the start, is now truly distinct. The entire ticket has changed, the energy is different, and what the party is putting forth as the faces of the party has transformed the terms of the competition.”

Kamala Has Democrats in Real Trouble
The American Thinker ^ | August 17, 2024 | William Sullivan

Every now and then, politicians allow the truth to seep into their carefully crafted talking points. That’s exactly what happened when Nancy Pelosi went on the record to confirm that Kamala Harris was not the Democrats’ original choice to be their presidential nominee in 2024 when Joe Biden was ousted in an orchestrated coup back in July.

This is what Pelosi told Ezra Klein of The New York Times, as it appears in the interview transcript:

Yeah, well, I think here’s the thing. The thought was that if this were to happen, but it happened fast, we ... none of us had any idea he would do it that Sunday. Well, I didn’t have any idea. Most people didn’t. So when he did that and endorsed [Kamala Harris], then the thought was everybody wanted an open process. Let’s see the talent, let’s see the bench of the Democrats and let them come. And see what they can attract. But when he endorsed her, then it was, “Are you with me or not?” And she moved quickly.

This was a bombshell confession. On the one hand, we all know that Pelosi had been conspiring with Chuck Schumer and Barack Obama to get rid of Joe Biden on the ticket after recognizing the polling damage that his obvious senility and terrible performance as president had caused. On the other hand, she admits to being blindsided by the timing of Biden’s withdrawal and also admits to have been blindsided by his simultaneous endorsement of Kamala Harris, suggesting that “everybody wanted an open process” to identify the party’s candidate.

Don’t believe one word of this drivel.
The Democrats have a huge problem on their hands. They are stuck with an unpopular, unqualified, racist idiot as their standard bearer, and they haven’t a clue how to get out of it.
Nothing has changed, she has not “risen” in popularity, They’ve made a mistake, and they know it
They’ve put themselves in a losing battle, and something has to happen in Chicago, to get them out.
Stay tuned, this is going to be wild.

Historic is right. The democrat party removed a sitting president and installed the VP as nominee and all this with no voting by the public. Welcome to their “Democracy”!

She certainly made history as the first Democrat Party nominee to receive the nomination without participating in a single debate, without any campaigning, and without any opposition. She didn’t win a single primary delegate in her first run or her second run. This certainly is historic, and not in a good way. And all the while she is claiming that her opponent is a threat to democracy. Wow. Democracy dies in darkness? Nope. It dies in the bright wide open, to the thunderous applause of the Democratic Party.
