You’re actually right. It actually began during the civil rights movement and when the Civil Rights Act and The Immigration Act of 1965 was passed. Our country was 90+% White back then and now look where we’re at.

Whites need to have powerful advocates defending whites (saying the W word).
Blacks, Latinos, Muslims, Jews, gays ... they all demand and have loud public advocates. And they have benefited from it.
Enough with "merit" and "individualism." That only works if everyone else is on the same page. But if everyone else is tribal and works as a group for their interest, but you're an isolated individual, you lose.
A tribe working cooperatively will beat random individuals every time.

However they look, Blacks, Latinos, Muslims, Jews, and gays have all benefited from identity politics. (Asians have tried it, but seem to be less successful at it.)
For instance, employers are less willing to fire a bad employee who can cry discrimination. Colleges are more conscious about enrolling a decent number of students from protected classes, lest they be charged with discrimination.
There are many examples.
Identity politics might be unconservative, yet inevitable in a diverse society. You can play it and demand your piece of the spoils, or resign based on "principle" and lose.
Young straight white Christian men are in a bad position these days. At the bottom of the ladder. They need people to speak out for their interests.
Trump has no problem playing identity politics for other groups (e.g., Platinum Plan for Black America).

You can be concerned about more than one thing at the same time, and have you noticed Hamas/Iran share two out of three of those things you mentioned? (i.e. anti-Christianism and anti-Americanism).
