So what you’re saying is, the soviets were defensive then became offensive, and that’s when the opposing invading forces were defeated? When the soviets went offensive helping the allies, the germans were defeated? Interesting. Seems like there’s a similarity the ukies might have used as a lesson to go on the offensive.

You asked a question. I answered. I would also point to the
Siege of Rome of AD 537 as another example. The Siege of Vienna as well.
In the the case of the Siege of Rome, the besieged held out long enough that the aggressors exhausted themselves trying to take the city. Once that happened, the besieged sent forces behind the enemy encamped around the city and threatened their supply lines, causing the aggressors to retreat in disarray.
If this is the type of strategy that Ukraine is employing, then more power to them.

Kind of, yes.
Really, Germany had been defeated at home by the West (and ground to a pulp by the defenses of the Soviets).
The Soviet offensive was really more of a mop up exercise.
I agree there are parallels, but it’s not exactly the same.

To get rid of Hannibal after years of stalemate, Rome went to Carthage and the rest is history.

The Russians went on offense whenever they could...starting in the Winter of 41 when the German march on Moscow ran out of steam. They were on the offensive in early 42 until bad tactics and the German drive on the Caucasus began. They went on offense again at the end of 42 and stayed on it until the end of the war.

Are you a Trumper?
If yes, how do you reconcile that with being pro Ukraine over Russia?

Exactly. That was a classic example of fighting a defensive war and then choosing the correct moment when the enemy is weak to go on offense.
Again, if that's what Ukraine has done here, then more power to them for their strategy.

That was essentially a defensive war until the Western allies bombed Germany into oblivion.
Defensive until the Allies knocked Italy out of the war and were able to ship a tremendous amount of war material into Murmansk.

You mean like being the president that started sending weapons to Ukraine and had American troops training them in Ukraine, and who had a new Army Corps formed and its European headquarters moved forward to Poland, are you under the impression that Trump is an ally of Russia against America and our NATO allies?

To get rid of Hannibal after years of stalemate, Rome went to Carthage and the rest is history. Yeah, but I think I've read that the Carthaginians were suffering a shortage of something the Russians have in quantity - might have been morozhenoe, or vodka, or maybe it was nuclear weapons...

Putin is afraid of Trump. Trump will kick Putin’s ass in negotiations over ending the war.
To: Who is John Galt?
Hannibal never captured Rome. Just like Russia never captured Kyiv. Or any other regional capitals in Ukraine.
To: Antoninus
Rome sent their best general and best troops and took the fight to Carthage and Hannibal was forced to retreat from Italy and go home to eventual defeat.
