The world has changed in sports, that's the nature of globalization. Countless athletes who performed for other countries trained or grew up in America.

I'm always surprised at how well Americans do in the Olympics, especially if you take away the stupid events, America would truly dominate. China was able to run up the gold medal count with such events.

China did well in shooting — something to keep in mind if they come crawling over my back yard someday...

I have mixed feelings about all the foreign athletes who train (or play, as in basketball) here, then compete for their own countries. On the one hand, that seems unfair, but on the other, it often gives our college athletes tougher competition more often, which may be a good thing?

I agree with table tennis and badminton but diving and shooting aew not stupid events.

Stanford athletes alone won 39 medals, which if it were a country, would have tied for 11th place in the medal count.
