Minnesota education plummeted under Democratic VP pick, former teacher Tim Walz’s leadership: critics

Democratic vice-presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz touts his credentials as a former public school teacher on the campaign trail — but the North Star State’s education performance has deteriorated under his leadership, critics told The Post.

Since Walz entered the governor’s office in 2019, students’ comprehension statewide for reading and math has plummeted, while his administration has come under fire for pushing what’s been described as an extremist, ideology-influenced curricula in the classroom.

“He spent most of the last two years working to accommodate far-left demands in his party rather than working to address real education issues in our state,” Republican state Sen. Carla Nelson, also a former teacher, told The Post.

“The Walz agenda has included burdensome mandates on schools … [that] have since led to budget shortfalls across the state and pulled teachers away from their students to comply with requirements,” Nelson added.

Under Walz’s leadership:

- Reading proficiency among Minnesota students fell to 49.9% in 2023, down from 59.2% in 2019, according to the state Department of Education. Math comprehension similarly sank, from 55% in 2019 to 45.5% last year.

- Thirty percent of all Minnesotan students were chronically absent, or missed more than 10% of school days, during the 2021-22 school year. That’s more than double from just 14% during the 2019 school year, according to the American Enterprise Institute.

- The Minnesota Department of Education revised the state social studies standards for schools requiring an “ethnic studies” component for K-12 students, which critics say is aimed at influencing graduates with a radical worldview.

- A 2023 bill from the state Legislature mandated all schools offer some type of ethnic studies courses in public schools by 2026.

Ethnic Studies

“Ethnic studies” means the interdisciplinary study of race, ethnicity, and indigeneity with a focus on the experiences and perspectives of people of color within and beyond the United States. Ethnic studies analyzes the ways in which race and racism have been and continue to be social, cultural, and political forces, and the connection of race to the stratification of other groups, including stratification based on the protected classes under Minnesota Statutes 2022, section 363A.13.

They should piggyback that article with the fact that not one that has gone to Lebron James’ school read or write.

Democrat disasters all day, everyday. But that’s what they want. Folks that can’t think for themselves.

Exactly why the Muslim Brotherhood loves dumb, illiterate, easily led people.

But at least the boys will have tampons available to them when they go to the bathroom.

Essentially every good matrix went down and every bad matrix went up under the dictatorship of Tim walz.

This man is just as bad of a wrecking ball as Biden and Kamalalaladingdong

If you look at San Francisco and Minneapolis and see successful models to be emulated nationwide, vote for the doofus duo of Harris-Walz. If you’re horrified, vote Trump-Vance.

Well he did sign a bill mandating that tampon dispensers be put in boys’ bathrooms, 6-12th grade.

So there is that achievement.

Walz marched with Abolish ICE in 2018. If Republicans can't campaign on this and score points..move on from the military story. Hit them on this. Keep them on defensive with new issue after new issue. Crowd size. Willie Brown. Lose that noise.

Has any media type bothered to interview any of his students?

You would think that if he was a good teacher that his students would be running to tell US about him.

It appears that this guy doesn’t have one favorable accomplishment. He’s screwed up everything in MN.

The irony here is that he would have no reason to censor “misinformation and hate speech” if none of the students in MN can read.
