As the senior enlisted man in the unit you don’t leave your unit when they’re scheduled to deploy. As part of accepting the rank of Command Sergeant Major I believe there was a 3 year commitment to stay in the guard. IMHO he failed the men of his unit.
They interviewed the guy who replaced him on the deployment.
Let’s just say he doesn’t like Walz too much
I stayed in when my unit was facing deployment, my Reserve unit, during the first Iraq war. My husband and I were discussing nannies because I had a new baby. As it turned out, my unit ended up not being called up. But it was a nerve-wracking time, and if called, I was fully prepared to pack up and head out. If you are a real military person, you want to be there if anything is going on. I was a female Army officer at the time. Walz gets nothing but my disdain.
