I started a thread like this a couple of years ago when I bought a new computer and transferred all my music files to it. I didn't stick with it, but maybe this time I'll be more dedicated!
One of the things that caught my eye was the "Play Count" number for each of the MP3 and MP4 files I moved from one computer to the other. As I went through these tracks on iTunes, I decided to rank them in the order of their play frequency to see if there were any interesting patterns in the number of times I've played them over the years. I'll take the Top 50 songs on this list and present them here on a series of FR threads. I'll post them here on a new thread that compiles the growing list one day at a time over the next couple of months. I'll only post them on weekdays and may miss a day or two here and there, so it will take at least ten weeks to do this.
And to show my gratitude to the FR management for giving us all a forum to post vanity threads like this, I'll be making a contribution for the current quarterly fundraiser. I would encourage everyone on these threads to do the same! :-)
Have fun with this, folks!
(One thing I noticed last week is that there was a tie at the end of the list for #50, so there will actually be 51 songs on 51 threads here.)
No Rumble version readily available for this one, folks.
#50T -- "Solsbury Hill" by Peter Gabriel
#50T -- "Fly Over States" by Jason Aldean
Pinging to the Day #1 list. Let me know if you’d like me to drop you from the ping list!
I’ve not heard this one before—but I’m not much of a country fan. I like some, but not all.
I’ve come to like country music a bit more over the years. I first heard this in 2016 and immediately thought it would be a perfect national anthem for “Trump Country.” :-)
Jason Aldean is an unabashed good friend of Trump. Actually sat in his skybox during the RNC a couple weeks back. Also, for some trivia, it was Jason Aldean who happened to be playing onstage at the Las Vegas Harvest music festival in 2017, when that horrible shooting happened.
Anyway, enough of that and back to the music. I do not have your number 1 song, Peter Gabriel's Solsbury Hill in my collection and I'll have to remedy that. I do have a cover version of that song by Erasure.
As I said on your first post, much of my music collection is due to discovery of what other people have in their playlists, so keep these threads coming!
I'm genuinely surprised you have 45,000+ song files, and that Peter Gabriel classic was NOT among them!
P.S. -- "Solsbury Hill" was posted on Day 1, but it's actually tied for Song #50. I'm posting these in reverse order, to count them down!
Despite my massive library, there are many surprising holes in it that I'm happy to fill in. Peter Gabriel was part of the progressive rock scene that I did not really get into until the past ten years or so. For most of my life, I was more into rock, new wave, classical, country, and pop. I started listening to Deep Tracks on Sirius/XM a few years back and I've been rapidly discovering the music of Genesis, Rush, Yes, Asia, Jethro Tull, and King Crimson, etc. So I'm catching up to all of that!
That would be awesome. I hope others follow your lead and do the same!
