46.40 seconds to beat nearest rival Kyle Chalmers by more than a second.

Ok wait a minute. Its "humanly possible" to swim it in 46.4, but not a single second faster?

I think the point is it is a tremendous issue in swimmers, when the difference between them is measured in tiny fractions of a second & to suddenly best someone with one entire second is out of the ordinary.

When the swim times are measured in hundredths of seconds, you can understand why a full second faster raises eyebrows.
