Hydroxychloroquine appears to be a safe and effective treatment option for anogenital lichen sclerosus that only has mild adverse effects, according to a study.
Christeebella O. Akpala and colleagues analyzed the demographic characteristics, clinicopathological features, treatment response, and outcomes of 70 patients diagnosed with either anogenital or extragenital lichen sclerosus who received hydroxychloroquine therapy (2018 to 2023).
The researchers found that 36% of patients had a connective tissue disorder, prompting hydroxychloroquine therapy. Of the 30 patients treated solely for lichen sclerosus, 21 showed a response, and nine had no response. The overall response among those with anogenital lichen sclerosus was 84.6% compared to 50% in extragenital lichen sclerosus. Four months was the median time to initial response. Adverse effects were mostly mild and were seen in 14.3% of patients.
"Hydroxychloroquine demonstrates promise as a therapeutic option for anogenital lichen sclerosus because of its favorable response rates and low incidence of adverse effects," the authors write. "However, further investigations, including larger-scale or prospective studies, are imperative to ascertain its definitive efficacy."

Have been on FR 26 years, but I'm fairly certain this is the first headline I've seen which includes the phrase "anogenital lichen".

How does that compare to “painful rectal itch”?

Honestly, this is commonly available again, with a prescription.
Your doctor could provide it, from this writeup and the study link, below it, on the Medical Xpress website.

It is a problematic, often genital-related, issue that changes skin color, is itchy, burns, and makes your skin very thin.
It is not contagious and often not able to be fully cured.

It is an autoimmune condition, like eczema. It is not caused by a virus, bacteria or fungus.

I looked it up; it has nothing to do with anything weird; it usually affects postmenopausal women.

How does that compare to “painful rectal itch”? With a name like "anogenital lichen sclerosus," it has to be good.

Remember when Fauchi said HCQ would kill you. The CDC forgot to scrub their fact sheet.

HCQ can be prescribed to adults and children off all ages. It can also be safely taken by pregnant women and nursing mothers.
I know of no OTC medication, let alone a prescription med that can be said about.
The entire Covid episode was a scam and a hoax.

My wife has taken HCQ for decades, to treat an autoimmune disorder. When Fauci came out with his false statements, our pharmacy refused to fill her prescription, even though they had been filling it for her for 30 years.
They said they would get in trouble for selling HCQ.
We had to resort to an Indian company to get her medication.
