He just said something courageous for a GOP elected official during his rally in Ohio.
He straight up said that he was wrong in 2003 about Iraq and that it ended up costing thousands of lives and trillions of dollars.
I admire him even more now!
If you're worried about JD or this lie he's Establishment then you don't need to be concerned after hearing that.
This is not the party of Bush any more.
It's very clear to me.
Revisionist crap.
Beside the point anyhow but panders to liberaltarians.
We were all lied to about WMDs.
I was also on the wrong side of Iraq back then. Although I was one of the first people to question what the goal was as soon as Bush said “we are not in the business of nation building” during his big speech (was it a state of the union?) during the buildup.
What about the Chicoms, finnegan?
It’s interesting to hear it from a now senior GOPer like Vance and the crowd applauded.
He was 19 years-old in 2003
“ What about the Chicoms, finnegan?”
You tell me, comrade.
You support them.
Why?
Yes and he said he supported it and was wrong
He WENT to IRAQ for gosh sakes!! What was he supposed to do......SPIT in the CiC face?
The flipping on support of Iraq is one thing, I was wrong also. What really bothered me was Vance saying that we were all wrong about Obama, that he isn’t a Muslim and that his credentials were impeccable. I still very much believe that Obama is a fraud. I don’t know if I can even finish the book. The IVY league pride is just too much for me. I feel like he is looking down his nose at non-Ivy league grads. I still support him for VP, just not as strongly.
Thousands of good, stock American men died for nothing.
Point is he is repudiating Cheney, Bush, Condi Rice and all those folks who will go their grave defending their ineptitude
We were not lied to. There was intelligence to support the presence of biological weapons. Isolationist revisionists harp on WMD’s as the only reason for getting rid of Saddam. There were other real and important reasons
Saddam had to go.
Agreed. The guy who got killed off was keeping the whackos in line there. I’m sure we were paying him good money to do it, too.
I think the real, unspoken and unofficial rationale for the Iraq invasion and removal of Hussein’s regime was to pressure Iran. Situated between two new “democratic” Arab nations and heavily supported by US military might, the thought was their govt would fold. It was naive as could be. Those people had no interest at all in becoming westerners. It was nation building from the onset in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Drivel, isolationist revisionist drivel
George Bush conquered Baghdad
I am as good a cold warrior as anyone here. It was incompetence in support of global empire by a bunch of fools and liars. Cold War is over and we need to deal with China.
you’re still in thrall to Bush
Fat lot of good it did.
Iran has never been more influential in that region or that country than it is now
Well done....
I think I am the only person in America who still believes the Iraq war of 2003 was absolutely correct.
It makes me sad when Republicans capitulate their history and accept radical left wing talking points from 20 years ago.
This is not winning and the entire NEO CON scam running here at FR is pure left wing fantasy.
Republicans will not be true winners until they can actually control and validate their own history. The dismal spiral of repudiation that comes for every prior iteration of Republican president is proof that the radical Left owns our public sphere.
Part of the simple logic is asking whether Gore or Kerry would have been a better president in 2000 or 2004. If the answer is not then we need to stop pretending that every prior Republican president is a dolt.
For all the NEO CON reactionaries, ask yourself this: How brilliant was it for Trump to annihilate the Iranian general Soleiman on the tarmac at Bagdad?
Correct answer: Massively brilliant.
Even though it is arguably an act of war and ‘risks dragging us into another war’ it was and continues to be the right thing to do. In many respects, it is Trump’s aggressive militarism that keeps America safe. He ordered the killing of hundreds of Russian soldiers. That undoubtedly something that gives him leverage to say the Russia Ukraine conflict will end before he becomes President.
I am glad we fought and won the Iraq war of 2003 even if Vance is not. How dumb is it to predicate your renewal in American idealism upon. your military service in Iraq while demeaning the purpose of that service? We can make better arguments than Vance is offering.
I was on the wrong side too. Cheerleading for Bush-Cheney’s foreign wars. Then I realized Iraq never attacked us…nor Afghanistan.
