I have recently become aware of a new shift in acceptable language. It happened at the assisted-living apartment where a loved one lives. I was trying to describe a specific maintenance worker who I’ve contacted before and was quickly corrected in the tersest manner by black aids that he was “African American.”
Wasn’t “Black lives matter” just a thing a few hours ago?
Novel idea...how about if we just call everyone “people” and not describe them as anything else? In God’s eyes, we are all one people...
Asian is all screwed up too
Oriental was more distinct East Asian pinched eyes or mixed
Asian was more brown land mass folks east of the Urals or Constantinople
It’s not “Black” that was the problem. It was “the Blacks” and “a Black.” People don’t say “a White” or “a white” to describe a person. That’s why “African-American” came into use.
Great point.
In fact, the greatest people I’ve met are African Americans, Americans who migrated from Africa in their lifetimes to make it their home. They LOVE this country and are salt-of-the-earth folks.
👊
I had described the maintenance worker I was trying to identify, since I couldn’t remember his name, as “black.” They immediately knew who I was referring to, so the descriptor was apt.
I value efficiency in communication. Seven syllables in “African American” as opposed to one syllable. It’s a no-brainer.
Technically, negro would be the appropriate term.
Caucasoid
Negroid
Mongoloid
I don’t wig out if i’m referred to as a caucasian.
Political correctness is for idiots!

Maybe so...... But idiots abound
and have since time began. jmo
That’s what I have heard....But Obama was also....I guess it don’t matter if you are a dumbocrat....
Something different from last year ...
It's not about being offended, it's about establishing dominance and control.
A slave doesn't dream of liberty; a slave dreams of mastery.
The "black community" exhibits a slave mentality 150 years after slavery was formally ended. It's pathetic, really.
(Then we’d be People of No Color, right?)
***********
Color abounds in various shades and it
applies to all of us. like it or not.
A scorecard with weekly updates is needed
Science experts say all humans came from Africa.
So blacks do not own that term it’s African Asian African Mexican African Chinese................................
Very true, I have a sister-in-law of Tamil origin, but she might easily be mistaken for a Mexican and she sounds like the highly educated American girl she is.
Teddy Roosevelt said there are no hyphenated Americans. I would agree that you either are or you are not.
Woke demons will find you no matter how reasonable and innocent you may be.
Good point.
I have a Caucasian friend from Africa. I reckon he’s African-American, too.
Ah, yes. The elementary school social studies class, when we could still mention such things. I remember when we talked about the Negroid racial stock, everyone would look at one of their black classmates to confirm the characteristics. No one minded.
