When did “black” become the new “n”-word?
Self | 7/22/2025 | Fwdude

I have recently become aware of a new shift in acceptable language. It happened at the assisted-living apartment where a loved one lives. I was trying to describe a specific maintenance worker who I’ve contacted before and was quickly corrected in the tersest manner by black aids that he was “African American.”

Wasn’t “Black lives matter” just a thing a few hours ago?

Novel idea...how about if we just call everyone “people” and not describe them as anything else? In God’s eyes, we are all one people...

It’s not “Black” that was the problem. It was “the Blacks” and “a Black.” People don’t say “a White” or “a white” to describe a person. That’s why “African-American” came into use.

Great point.

In fact, the greatest people I’ve met are African Americans, Americans who migrated from Africa in their lifetimes to make it their home. They LOVE this country and are salt-of-the-earth folks.

I had described the maintenance worker I was trying to identify, since I couldn’t remember his name, as “black.” They immediately knew who I was referring to, so the descriptor was apt.

I value efficiency in communication. Seven syllables in “African American” as opposed to one syllable. It’s a no-brainer.

Caucasoid
Negroid
Mongoloid

I don’t wig out if i’m referred to as a caucasian.

What do they want to be called this year?

Something different from last year ...

It's not about being offended, it's about establishing dominance and control.

A slave doesn't dream of liberty; a slave dreams of mastery.

The "black community" exhibits a slave mentality 150 years after slavery was formally ended. It's pathetic, really.

Very true, I have a sister-in-law of Tamil origin, but she might easily be mistaken for a Mexican and she sounds like the highly educated American girl she is.

Teddy Roosevelt said there are no hyphenated Americans. I would agree that you either are or you are not.

Ah, yes. The elementary school social studies class, when we could still mention such things. I remember when we talked about the Negroid racial stock, everyone would look at one of their black classmates to confirm the characteristics. No one minded.
