“My wife is Japanese. They are amazing people. I was just there and they still work like crazy...covid didn’t destroy their work ethic. And it is so cheap to live there now. Seriously considering moving there.”
Mine is , too . I’ve lived in Japan since 1985 . If you are over here using US$ I guess one could say it is cheap-ish as the dollar is strong against the yen now . If you live here and live on yen , it can be somewhat inexpensive depending on one’s lifestyle . My wife and I ate out last night at a family run sushi/izakaya type restaurant which we frequent 3-4 times a month . I had 8 pieces of sushi ( tuna , salmon , sea bream , amberjack , shrimp , salmon eggs , scalllop ) and the wife had a simmered sea bream set ( with miso soup , rice , veggies ) . I had a glass of shochu mixed with hot water . Bill was 3000 yen - $ 20 at current exchange rate . Cheap !
In the USA that would cost $50 at least.
Where do you live? I was just in Yokohama (wife’s hometown) and Nagano (her 160 year old family home...which we may inherit). I loved both places.

Just out of curiosity, what brought you to Japan to begin with and why have you stayed so long?
