Summer has a reputation for prolific rainfall totals in a short amount of time, and because of that, it's when many states have recorded their most extreme 24-hour rainfall records.

Records for 24-hour rainfall in the United States range from less than 6 inches to more than 4 feet. Those amounts for each state are shown in the map below, which uses data compiled by NOAA's Centers for Environmental Information. The record for Kansas is under review by the State Climate Extremes Committee since the previously posted biggest total of 13.53 inches was found to be

That's not I thought summer's reputation was. I thought summer's reputation was for warm weather and less rain.

Of course, I live in the north, and it's different in the south where hurricanes typically roll through in the summer and in desert areas where much of the rain comes in a few heavy rains that may occur at any time of the year. But summers in my area and in much of the country are easily the driest time of the year, by far.

3 tornados in Eastern upstate NY recently plus torrential rain. At least I can mow this year, last year was almost too wet, zero turn was tearing up lawn on turns.

Yeah, over here (SE WA) we can go the entire summer with no rain. But a little thunderstorm spoiled that run yesterday. It was vestigial monsoon all the way from western Gulf of Mexico.

Th Weather Channel document was not sarcasm. It was done by real “climate change” true believers.

The comment by the poster referring to a dead ancestor in Utah, who we were told worked for NOAA, was likely meant as sacarsm, but I don’t think THAT was apparent.

"More than 10 states have set new records this century. ... It's a sign of how climate change is making intense, heavy rainfall events more likely."

This means 40 states have not seen a new high in the last 24 years. Since records go back to the late 19th century or early 20th century, 10 out of 50 isn't evidence of "intense, heavy rainfall" being more likely. It's evidence of things being normal.

In fact, the last EF5 tornado anywhere on the planet was in 2013. Before that they were roughly an annual event. So if they were honest they'd be endless harping about how extreme weather was settling down. But they aren't honest, because there is no money or control in it for them.

Yes, I heard that Rome, NY got hit pretty hard. That was the same storm front that came though here causing the micro burst.

I ended up buying a Scag 52” Tiger Cat II. That is their bottom of the line true commercial mower.
It cost more than my first new Tacoma. Back in 88.

However, it has literally cut my mowing time in half. From two hours with my 1999 John Deere 42” rider to 1 hour with the Scag.
I am sure I could reduce that even further, but there are several spots where I bottom out/scalp if I am going too fast.

All of my lawn/field was forest ten years ago. So, a lot of the places where there used to be boulders have sunk. I need to bring in about 4-5 more dump trucks of loam and regrade.

The Scag will go 10 mph and still cut grass because the blades spin at a higher RPM than typical home owner mowers.

Mine was $9700
But they discounted it because it had a scratch on the paint.
They gave me a can of touch paint and took another $500 off the price.

Plus I got it with a carbureted Kawasaki 24HP V Twin. Not a electronic fuel injected engine. Mostly because I read they have still been having issues with the EFI systems. They are still relatively new in mowers.

There are about eight different engines that you can get with that mower. It changes the price depending on the power unit. You can even get a Yamaha engine. They are the most expensive. Plus you can go with a 61" deck. Which is also a few hundred more. Too big for my yard/spots.
