My mother's first job was as a cub reporter for a Hurst newspaper in Washington DC when she was just out of college shortly before WWI. She said Hurst was the best boss she every had.
She buttonholded Wilson coming out of church, got an interview and permission to come in the White House whenever she wanted. Hurst gave her a raise and promotion. She was a White House reporter up into the Roosevelt administration.
