ESPYs host Serena Williams and Quinta Brunson took a jab at Kansas City Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker during the awards ceremony Thursday night.
The moment happened as Williams and Brunson discussed women's sports with Venus Williams at the sports awards show.
"So, go ahead and enjoy women’s sports like you would any other sports, because they are sports," Venus said.
"Except you, Harrison Butker. We don’t need you," Serena quipped.
"At all. Like, ever," Brunson added as the audience laughed.
Butker attended the ESPYs, but the camera did not pan to him to catch his reaction.
The NFL kicker received widespread backlash over his commencement speech in May at Benedictine College when he asserted that one of the "most important" roles for a woman is being a homemaker.
"How many of you are sitting here now, about to cross this stage, and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you are going to get in your career? Some of you may go on to lead successful careers in the world," he said during his speech.
"But I would venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world," Butker said.
Criticism quickly followed, with some graduating students saying his remarks were "uncomfortable" and that it was not the "time and place."
A spokesperson for the NFL told People Magazine that Butker's "views are not those of the NFL as an organization."
Butker said he has no regrets about the comments he made during his speech.
Williams isn't first celebrity to blast Butker during a show. Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder took aim at the kicker during the band's Las Vegas concert in May, saying, "There’s nothing more masculine than a strong man supporting a strong woman.”
I disagree with a lot of things footballs players say. I just don't think they need to be punished for it.
And fighting pitbulls to the death doesn’t get a mention.
What do Serena, Venus, and Michele Obama have in common?
Angry black woman. Aren’t they all? Is she the one with the white guy using her for a meal ticket?
So you can be a misogynist, rap-loving thug on the gridiron, but if you praise Christ and believe in the teachings of the Bible, you’re not welcome in any circles.
What an absolute turnabout we’ve done as a society and a culture. Shameful.
Aside from being brainless mouth pieces for Woke politics?
As I read it he was in the audience. There is nothing lower than speaking at an event and attempting to belittle someone in the audience.
Monkeys flinging poo is usually funny..
Think: below the belt....
Don’t forget- no punishment for Jew haters in the NFL either...
Forbes: NFL’s DeSean Jackson’s Anti-Jewish Instagram Posts Demand A Harsh Penalty
I believe Harrison Butker is the one who made the ultimate mistake of saying he wouldn’t be where he is without a supporting wife.
Not as much as you seem to think. Are you a Democrat? Why play identity politics like them.
Some white freepers were criticizing him also.
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder took aim at the kicker during the band’s Las Vegas concert in May, saying, “There’s nothing more masculine than a strong man supporting a strong woman.”
++++++++++
What exactly does the morally bankrupt vedder trying to say here? Harrison Butker is clearly supportive of his wife. So is H.B’s wife not a strong woman? Or is H.B. not a strong man? vedder is a douche.
I didn’t think I could like Serena less. I was wrong.
Trash vs class. A ugly woman who looks like a man with a filthy mouth. I’ll take Butker, thank you.
a man who supports SAHMs and tries to raise them up is somehow ‘evil’? There are still a few women who think this ‘career’ is worthwhile. I know more who want to go back to work to get a break.
Naturally they couldnt steer clear of Caitlyn Clark either.... these folks hate white people. Its okay to say it.
They’re all really ignorant? Did I win?
Right will become wrong and wrong will become right. I believe I read that somewhere.
