My Automobile insurance went up 80% for no reason.

I looked in my wallet because the little good angel voice in my head said

"when was the last time you printed out new proof of car insurance forms?"

I looked and saw I need to print new ones, when I logged into the website it said

"We have re-rated your policy for the next 6 months, $xxxx will be deducted from your account on 7/31/2024"

I was like ??? it should be $xxx

I called them and they said "it is not your fault, but we don't know why"

I called my state ins tzar and they said, wow an 80% increase that is a lot, but we are just here to answer phone calls and pretend to be sympathetic, however we have rules that went into effect recently that say you can ask them why and they must tell you, and helpfully gave me the rule numbers which said I had to give them this request in writing.

I went to my ins company website (esurance/allstate) and they had a helpful chat button so I chatted with them about this and they eventually gave me an address and told me to send them a letter.

I told them that my chatting was in writing and to fwd my request to their legal dept.

They then said ok we will send you a letter that has a reason.

They sent me a letter that said your rate increase is due to your Insurance Credit Score.

It also said If you have questions contact LexisNexis about it

https://consumer.risk.lexisnexis.com/request

I did not know that there was an specific Ins Credit Score, and did some research, which turned up nothing except that it was kinda/mostly based on your credit score. (my fico score is not an issue)

Today I got my personal lexis report which was 64 pages.

but nothing I really did not expect, and there was nothing negative, and certainly not an ins credit score listed in the report.

I have tried to find other auto ins, but everyone is quoting about the same as my soon to be previous company.

I can self-insure, but that would be annoying.

any ideas on what should I do next ?

Apparently, since the insurance companies offer discounts to people who agree to have their driving habits recorded, all those people who didn’t agree get to subsidize the discounts for others, even if their driving record is perfect.

Both my USAA home owners and auto went up a lot. A thousand for home and 900 for auto. A racket!

Considering a lot of price increases on many items, it seems to me that what is happening here may be that just because a company raises it’s prices, another thinks that is justification for them to do the same. Just as bad is when they reduce the quantity or quality (or both) of a product to compensate. Why not retain price, quantity, & quality if you can & advertise as such? Surely that should increase sales & firm up your customer base. I have as late experienced certain products that have reduced everything but price & expect to be competitive. They are going to lose out in the long run. Some products have deteriorated to the point that I no longer will purchase them. The price has stayed the same, but the product quality is lowered to the point of just not being acceptable. I have also found that to file a complaint about certain products requires jumping through so many hoops that it is just not worth it. This tells me that that certain companies are just not interested in hearing your complaints.

We had almost 50% increase fr State Farm. Shop around. Oh, State Farm is not taking new business in Texas. Safeco isn’t writing input area of tax…piney woods of east tchotchkes hit hard at beginning of June.
We’ll see what happens.

There’s been lots of articles lately about modern cars spying on owners. If you have On Star, or Car Play or even a car with a heads-up console your data is being tracked and sold. Many folks are upset about this. It’s another TOS. If you have an older car, check the data port under the driver’s side dash, it may still have a tracking device connected to it. (You can YouTube what it looks like). Newer cars they cannot be removed without messing up the electronics.
