Caitlin Clark Becomes First Rookie in WNBA History to Record a Triple-Double in Matchup With New York Liberty

No. 1 overall pick Caitlin Clark made more history on Saturday afternoon during the Indiana Fever's matchup with the New York Liberty. With her 10th rebound early in the fourth quarter, she became the first rookie to record a triple-double.

She is also the first player in Fever history to record a triple-double as Indiana rallied to beat the Liberty 83-78. She finished with 19 points, 12 rebounds, and 13 assists.

Clark got off to a terrific start, as she scored the first five points for the Fever and made three 3-pointers in the first quarter to help them build an early double-digit lead. All told, she either scored or assisted on 12 of the team's 17 field goals in the first half. While she wasn't able to keep up quite that level of influence in the second half, she did so much work early that she didn't need long to get her triple-double.

This was Clark's fourth game this season with at least 10 assists, which is second only to Ticha Penicheiro all-time for rookies. It was also her fourth points-assists double-double, which gives her the rookie record in that category.

A double-double really isn’t that great of an accomplishment in a basketball game. It usually means that a player scored at least 10 points and also had at least either 10 rebounds or 10 assists. A triple-double is, of course, a lot less common of an accomplishment.

You’re right, but I did today, and witnessed one of the finest performances from a basketball player I’ve ever seen in my 64 years of trying to walk upright on Earth. Ms. Clark’s response
after the game: “Yeah, it’s pretty cool. Honestly, I feel like we played a really good game. You don’t get it without your teammates finishing baskets for you. It’s really cool. This franchise has had a lot of really great players. So, to be a part of that, I’m just very lucky and fortunate.” Not only a great player, but humble and grounded. The Fever play next on July 10th, but I have WNBA league pass. Figured it was worth the money to be able to watch this remarkable human being.

Just so strange to me that people watch a game where a good high school boys team could destroy these “professionals”. Some people are such suckers for narratives and feel good storylines.

Of course, she also makes too many turnovers, but she’ll probably reduce those as she gains more and more experience playing against bigger and quicker opponents.

From the little bit I have seen of her, it seems to me that a lot of the so called turnovers committed by Clark are more often than not as a result of her team mates’ inability to cleanly handle her passes rather than an errant pass on her part.

Reese only has many rebounds because she rebounds her own missed shots.

Now, that is good, but if she made them she wouldn’t have to rebound them,.

As Charles Barkley said, she needs to be making them.

I agree that is the case at times, but she attempts such difficult passes that some are bound to be deflected or a little off the mark occasionally. But as much as she handles the ball and passes it around, it she just cuts the six or seven turnovers in half she'll be doing great. She'll always have a few, but her ball movement and assists have become the main reason for the team's recent success on offense and on the scoreboard.

Yeah, I can’t respect that. She should be banned from the sport. F her and her thug teammates.

What is a Triple-Double?
There are five major individual stats in basketball:

Points
Assists
Rebounds
Steals
Blocks
All box scores will display these five stats for every player in the game.

A triple-double is achieved when a player has double-digit stats (at least 10) in any three of these five major statistical categories.

Example: 10 points, 10 assists, and 10 rebounds.
