I got paid $10,000 to move to Tulsa. My mortgage for a whole house is about what I used to pay to rent one room.

In LA in 2020, I was living with three other roommates — one was my sister, and the other two were friends.

There were four of us in this five-bedroom townhome, and the rent was $3,800 a month — which was actually pretty good.

My portion of that rent was $1,100 because I had the master bedroom.

I bought the house in Tulsa in November 2020, and it just sat vacant until I moved there in December.

It's a three-bedroom, two-bath house with a two-car garage, and my mortgage is $1,185.

I guess he or she never heard the song "You're the reason God made Oklahoma" ("There's a full moon over Tulsa...").

Great song but the casual listener might come away thinking that Tulsa is in Cherokee County.

My mother moved to Tulsa on Dec. 7, 1941 (she heard about Pearl Harbor from the cousin who drove her to the train station), but I don't know how much she paid for rent.

“ Next thing you know Tulsa will get “green spaces” bike lanes, roundabouts, and “Art walks. “”

Tulsa metro resident since 2007 and every one of those are present now with most becoming reality just in my time here.

Mears area is good. Lawtonka acres nearby is on the lake.

Dry heat, 4 seasons, walking and hiking, low taxes, low cost of living, low-Karen count. Many of the locals are ‘love-thy-enemy’ Baptists. So it does attract a fair share of predators.

I only was in Tulsa once and that was driving through. I made a friend in Bricktown the night before a flight and his father is a pastor at a church there. So I decided to stop in and attend service on a drive from Dallas to St Louis. It was one of the “black churches” where they are singing and dancing and jumping around. More people in the choir than the congregation. I was the only white face in the crowd. It was good fun and everyone was super friendly. The pastor thanked me for visiting and glad I had a good time chatting with his son. But don’t tell the californicators. Tulsa, in fact all of Oklahoma, is a horrible horrible place and must be avoided at all costs and never move there.

Check the weather. Tulsa is one of the most miserably hot and dry places in the summer I have ever been and that includes most of the world. Besides that, the place is falling apart and mostly crime ridden. Just another shitty. The 10 grand thing is a stupid thing to do. Tulsa was already a liberal outpost. I call I-44 the St. louis Extension.

I thought about posting that verse, but I figured more people would catch the other.

Prices are even higher now in California to rent a place.

A co-worker and his wife moved from Thousand Oaks, Calif to Eugene, Oregon in 2021. Thousand Oaks is consider a nice area about 30 miles from Los Angeles. It is dry and hot in the summers with added brush fires....
Eugene is surrounded by forest and lakes and rivers.

His comment from Nov 2021:
“We were paying 2.3k to rent a 2 bedroom apt. Wasn’t nice by any means. Out here we’re paying 1.3k for a 3 bedroom house to rent.”

My brothers and a couple of their friends were paying $200 a month to rent a 4-bedroom house in Eugene when they were going to college there. Of course, that was a little over 50 years ago.

Bob and Nancy Strait lived about a mile from my elderly parents in north east Tulsa. I don’t know if they knew my parents.

My parents got out. The Straits were one day away from getting out.

But Tyrone got them.
