My German Shepherd as no good for emotional support. He was aloof. Not lovey dovey or cuddly at all.
He was still a good companion and showed a strong bond, but once “hi” was over, he just wanted to work and be busy. Not a good breed for a living stuffed animal to hug, which is what people want in a “support dog”.
My dogs prefer to get emotional support.
Some of us humans would like a neck rub too.
Poodles, German Shepherd, and a Collie-German Shepherd mix are three we’ve had over the years. The mix was very comforting to my grieving relative. The G.S. we’ve had looked out for us and their dog friends. The poodles we’ve had/have all liked affection. Poodle we have now will run to me if she thinks I am hurt, or whenever I’ve fallen.

I have a female GSD that is the exact opposite. She will do anything for attention. Terrible watch dog. I believe if a burglar came in the house and petted her she would help him steal my stuff.
