You do know I am a Marine.
My dad and grandma stated getting their mail returned without an explanation as to why.
Thank you for your service, Marine. If you were in OK, I'd buy you the best damn BBQ on Earth. Place is right off Route 66 and always has a line, but man it is worth it.
My half-brother (now deceased) served in Chu Lai. His MOS was Air Traffic Controller -- but coming home, he was screamed at by a lot of people who apparently thought ANYONE wearing a uniform had been at My Lai. Fortunately not spat on.
That would be scary.
When my dad was in Korea CBS mis-reported that his company had been annihilated. It was 2 weeks before my Mom got a postcard from him that post-dated the alleged annihilation. She said it was the longest 2 weeks of her life.
When I told Dad how thankful I was that Mom got that good news, he said the families of the company that really did get annihilated - one that was connected to the Turkish allies who were so hated by the communists - didn’t have that wonderful surprise.
I hope it was not a long wait for your Dad and Grandma to get the explanation that put their fears to rest.
