VEEP STAKES: JD Vance says he'd be disappointed if NOT selected as Trump's VP

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said Wednesday he would be disappointed if the presumptive GOP nominee doesn't select him as his running mate.

Why it matters: Vance reportedly teeters between the top two spots on former President Trump's VP shortlist and has been intensely lobbying donors for the former commander in chief's re-election campaign.

What they're saying: "I'm human, right?" Vance said in an interview that Fox News aired Wednesday. "And so, when you know this thing is a possibility, if it doesn't happen, there is certainly going to be a little bit of disappointment."

Wow, that’s fairly pretentious. Especially since many of the early rumors were that Vance was Trump’s original pick, but Vance turned him down.

“I’m human, right?” Vance said in an interview that Fox News aired Wednesday. “And so, when you know this thing is a possibility, if it doesn’t happen, there is certainly going to be a little bit of disappointment.”

That’s a very honest answer. He’s right. Anyone, or at least any politician, who is *close* to being on a presidential ticket but then doesn’t make the cut likely is going be disappointed. Didn’t Vance get the memo, though?? This sort of candor has no place in politics. LOL

Well I’ll be pissed if I dont get the VP slot..LOL What’s going to happen if Vance doesn’t get it, will he go on CNN and bash Trump, if he does it will prove that Trump was right not to pick him..Trump #1 wants someone who is loyal, and loyal to the maga agenda, he’s already been screwed once he wont do it again

I would love it if someone asked Bidet’s Press Secretary who the President will pick for his running mate.

It’s not like we need to shore up support in Ohio either. I don’t think any senator would make a good choice right now... we need all hands on deck there.

DJT isn’t even loyal to his MAGA Agenda, so I doubt that’s an issue in his pick.

“That’s a very honest answer.”

Most politicians frequently lie about all kinds of stuff to make themselves look good.
“Would be be disappointed if you’re not picked?”.
“Of course not. I stand ready to do anything to help President Trump and the party ... blah blah blah”.

Here comes JD and says - “yeah I’d be disappointed”. Whoah.
He actually tells the truth and let’s it hang out there ... like Trump does. Who’d thunk?

Will he return to his Never Trumper roots if passed over?

Not likely, at least not anytime soon. Even Mitch McConnell has seemingly buried the hatchet now. The number of Republicans opposing Trump that are currently in office has been pretty much reduced to Mitt Romney, and that’s it.

Most of the picks I’ve heard seem to have good qualities and good reasons to select them. Ben Carson is probably the only one who I’d trust not to stab Trump in the back in the end.
Rubio, Scott, Vance and Vivek seem like fair weather friends. Not sure about Burgum...what was he saying on Jan 7?

Timely Departure Act

This bill requires certain nonimmigrants to secure a visa with a bond.

Under the bill, an applicant for a covered visa category must provide a bond (or cash payment) of at least $5,000 and no more than $15,000 according to rules to be established by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Covered visa categories include those for visitors for business or pleasure and exclude those for foreign government officials and crime victims. The bill also specifies that a nonimmigrant seeking asylum or withholding of removal while present in the United States must apply for asylum or withholding of removal by the expiration date on their visa to remain eligible for asylum or withholding of removal.

The bill provides that a covered nonimmigrant who overstays the term of their visa forfeits the full bond, is subject to removal, and is ineligible for any lawful immigration status (including adjustment of status) for at least 4 years and up to 12 years. Forfeited amounts may be used solely for detention facilities for non-U.S. nationals (aliens under federal law) and international transportation for non-U.S. nationals ordered removed from the United States.

The bill specifies that DHS, in implementing this bill, may only issue rules regarding (1) the collection and retention of bonds and cash payments, (2) the notification of the Attorney General regarding a nonimmigrant’s failure to timely depart, and (3) preventing the circumvention of the bond requirement.
