A missing Santa Cruz County hiker is back home after spending more than a week in the mountains, and the heartfelt reunion was all captured in photos.
Lukas McClish, 34, said spent 10 days in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
On Tuesday, June 11, McClish headed out for a three-hour hike from his hometown of Boulder Creek. He said he got lost and didn't recognize certain landmarks wiped out by fires.
When he didn't show up for Father's Day dinner, he was declared missing on Sunday, June 16.

"I left with just a pair of pants, and my pair of hiking shoes, and a hat. I had a flashlight, and a pair of folding scissors, like a Leatherman tool. And that was about it," McClish said.

3 weeks without food
3 days without water
3 minutes without air
3 seconds without hope.
He kept hope, drank water and did well
I try to help people with no sense of direction to acclimate wherever they are. I point out things like ‘the coast, the big ocean is that way.’ West for some, East for others. Once you have East and West down, it becomes a little easier. The Sun always rises in the East and sets in the West. Most people will at least try to take this information in. Those that don’t just don’t want to know.
One day I was walking with a college classmate. The building was very large, with long hallways. We had walked most of the way to the end of the hallway when she announced that she was heading to the subway. We had been walking West, and the subway is to the East. As I pointed out that she would have to turn around and head back the way she came, she cursed, and asked just how I knew, how I oriented the world from inside a building. I told her that she could do the same thing. If we had kept walking West, we would have reached the ocean, so walking away from the ocean is heading East. By this time she was too frustrated to take in and actualize the information. I tried to smooth things over, stating not everyone has a sense of direction. Did not help much.
He covered himself in mud so the Predator wouldn’t see him. I agree, this smells of BS.
Guy is milking it.
“Of course, we’re sitting safely in our homes...”
Not all of us are safe in our homes. Some of us live in democrat controlled states.
Been thinking about this a bit more and even Gilroy I can smell his crap from here
I lived in Brookdale and can pretty much walk off into the forest and make my way back or find a road or look at some moss and how the branches grow on various plants to figure East and West
LOL!
34 yrs old?! He looks more like 84!
The first pics of the guy showed him wearing Ranger Rick’s shirt. Wondered why but then he didn’t list a shirt as a thing he took with him. I’m guessing likker, weed, or some other convenient space med was a fakter in his going off half cocked. Then he said it was a 3 hour hike but didn’t say how long before he decided to turn back. Sounds like it took him 3 days for his head to clear up enough to realize he was lost.
Don’t want this guy on my Pathfinder team.
If he was savvy enough to go on a three hour hike, he likely knew which way the coast was to the west.
I wish there was more information about how he found water etc.
Thank God he was found alive. That was a long time to be lost and without proper gear and food.
When is his book coming out?
She sounds like me. My girl brain just does not know how to orient to directions. You would not believe how much of my life was wasted in driving lost before GPS.
If I go into a large building, I must remind myself to study features so that I go the right way on the way out. It takes some work.
Men just usually seem to understand direction and know where they are.
I found 3 pages of references to Minneapolis St Paul, and the airport MSP...
That’s the garlic...
At lest one meal and a qt of water .a lighter or some type of fire starter .
