Punk is a raucous, stripped-down genre of rock music that, at its best, is made of “three chords and the truth.” Punk rock is accessible and immediate, featuring artists who may only know a handful of chords, but they’re into it for the music, not the technique. Arranging them into any kind of hierarchy is bound to get punches thrown in a punk bar. Here are the 31 best punk songs of all time.
1. Anarchy In The UK – Sex Pistols Sex Pistols - Anarchy In The UK
The archetypical punk song, this 1977 Cook, Matlock, Jones, and Rotten song was the proverbial foreign object in the punchbowl of the overproduced British rock scene of the late 1970s. Dripping with contempt for the British hierarchical worldview like the rest of Never Mind The Bollocks, Here’s The Sex Pistols, this is one of the classic punk songs for a reason.
2. God Save The Queen – Sex Pistols Sex Pistols - God Save The Queen Revisited
Recorded almost midway through the 70-year reign of Queen Elizabeth II, this ripping indictment of English authority is a classic punk banger. Half-sung and half-shouted by Johnny Rotten, the angry lyrics and simple message of rage toward the system and its abuses, personified by the Queen, make this a song that will long outlive its target.

It’s John Hall singing. 1979. Totally Sex Pistols, Clash punk influence. Music and clothes and haircut.
Then he did King Crimson again as a new wave act.
Blitzkreig Bop by The Ramones is the only necessary punk rock song.
Even some of the suggestions are more New Wave oriented. But some of them are considered pop punk. The genre classification was meant to distinguish different forms of rock in my opinion, that have unique sounds to them that differ from original rock as it aged through the years and the topics became more varied.
Some genres ae of course music that is not rooted in rock at all, but most of the new genres that have been classified, are indeed rooted in rock.
For example; Blues Rock, it stemmed from blues which was the Black equivalent to Country music. Both sing about struggles in life. Blues Rock is an extension of the black blues with a fusion of rock, because some black blues song had that infusion already as well. Country rock is the expansion & fusion into country music.
Many groups play songs from various genres.
But hey, this is all for fun. Just list the songs you like, because there are more important things that deserve to be argued. 🙂👍
“Who Do You want to be Today?”

“Goodbye”

Oingo Boingo is rattling in my
Grey Matter!
Devo’s Mongoloid, off the same album, is excellent as well.
Absolutely not. No offense, but you just don’t understand punk.
The Clinton’s and Fleetwood Mac are both about as establishment as it gets.
OTOH, The Sex Pistols are punk. Blonde was kinda punk and pop hybridized. Blondie was probably the only person on the planet who could pull that off.
The Talking Heads were punk too. I saw them live at the OKC Zoo Amphitheater... many years ago.
So far as Presidential Punk, guess who. None other than our own POTUSDJT, the first Punk President.
I think we all agree that some of the songs on the list are a real stretch to claim them as punk songs. But others are legit punk songs.
For example, I never like any songs by The Dead Kennedys that I listened to, which were punk songs. Perhaps you can lead me to one of their songs I might enjoy, or some other punk band. 🙂👍
