MASSIE: A 2 year degree in political science should NOT grant you legal U.S. residency
X ^ | June 21 | Rep. Thomas Massie

A two year degree in political science should NOT grant you legal U.S. residency.

I’m for legal immigration. We should welcome skilled people who can strengthen our republic & who subscribe to the values enshrined in our Constitution.

But this ain’t it!

Doesn’t Massie understand that FR wants him to simply agree with everything Trump says?

I think Trump explicitly stated he was in favor of recruiting and retaining American educated foreign PhDs with unique technical skills.

I didn't hear anything about Trump extending the same offer to foreign students with a two year community college degree in political science.

This is actually pretty disingenuous of Massie.

Massie is a very bright guy with a PhD from MIT so he knows exactly the demographic of world class PhD talent that Trump is referring to because he studied and did research with them.

As such, Massie is fully aware of what these types of brilliant and talented people bring to the table for our country. And yet, Massie still can't keep his TDS in check and resist the urge to manufacture a phony straw man argument to demagogue Trump with.

Massie should be ashamed with himself on this one and we should take anything Massie says with a healthy bit of skepticism

@RepThomasMassie

I think he’s politicking.

His statement was an effort to endear himself to Nikki Haley voters, the Chamber of Commerce, west coast tech CEOs, and some segment of immigrants.

The danger is many neocon republicans would do this in Congress in exchange for their war priorities.

End immigration, we are more than filled up already.

We don’t even need legal immigration at this point. Women can work now so we already doubled the work force from what it was decades ago. Student visa scammers shouldn’t get a green card since we need a lot less foreign students.
Colleges want them since they make more money off of them, those slots should go to Americans

“I think Trump explicitly stated he was in favor of recruiting and retaining American educated foreign PhDs with unique technical skills.”

On a podcast, which I heard, he included 2 year community college without mentioning any particular major. Trump is wrong in this area and advisors need to tell him it’s a crazy idea.

We need MORE useless college grads because they are useless now and 0+0+0+0 = 1

Yes, he did specify that a degree from a junior college is included.

In 2019, he was one of just 13 Republican representatives who broke party lines to support a resolution preventing the president from bypassing congressional approval for wall construction.

This is a real head scratcher?

Thank you for referencing that article RandFan.

"MASSIE: A 2 year degree in political science should NOT grant you legal U.S. residency"

As a side note to this thread, consider the following about the benefits of a basic political science education.

It would't be surprising if illegal aliens who successfully passed a basic, unbiased political science course would know more about the federal government's constitutionally limited powers than probably many post-17th Amendment ratification citizen voters do.

Political “Science”.
It’s not a top contender for Oxymoron of the Century, but it’s close.

This is another example where our candidate for executive office makes an unforced error by stating legislative proposals.

Stay in your lane.

FWIW I’ve seen 10-15 reasons so far, none of which make sense to me. From this is payback to SV for their support even though we’re getting very little support from them to this is to appeal to the Haley/Chamber of Commerce wing.

I’m willing to give Pres Trump the benefit of doubt until further clarification is offered.

Lacking further explanation, whoever came up with this and the notion that consumption taxes should replace income taxes s/b fired.

Yikes! Anybody who graduates from college or JUNIOR COLLEGE “automatically gets a green card”. Trump, you’re alienating (is that a pun?) a lot of supporters. SNHU? Capella?

And he thinks Harvard is a great school.

What is going on with him?

I did not hear that - only the part about recruiting STEM PhDs which I am very much in favor of.

I am absolutely opposed to blanket H1B visas for generic two year community college grads, if for no reason other than the fact that any foreign student that can only get admitted to “community college” program is not likely to have the sort of skill set that should qualify for a H1B visa.

Many of these two year programs are actually not even legit community colleges and are BS diploma mills and Obama era scams. If this is the case, Trump needs to re evaluate his position on this program and I probably owe Massie a bit of an apology.
