What did all you dads do today (or have planned)?
Last week our oldest daughter and boyfriend took me to a wonderful South American restaurant called "Oyo" in Pleasanton, CA. It's a fusion of northeast South America (Guyana), Caribbean, and West African. Outstanding. We then took the Niles Canyon Scenic Railway ride which is really gorgeous.
Today I got a nice phone call from our middle daughter in Spokane and we chatted a long while catching up. She and her husband are headed to the Oregon Coast for a week (and will meet up with oldest daughter and boyfriend).
This morning our son took me out to breakfast at our long-time favorite coffee shop in town, the "Village Pantry" and we sat outside on their delightful hidden patio / courtyard in the rear under perfect late-spring weather. Sunny, blue skies and 72ish.
I went on a long hike in the Santa Cruz Mountains near Russian Ridge yesterday afternoon and had some nice chats with a couple of rangers and another hiker. A couple days ago I hiked up Windy Hill in Portola Valley. Started off in raging winds with thick fog pouring down the hill, but it cleared up, the fog burned off, and ended with perfectly blue skies. Total about ten miles and 1,700 feet elevation gain.
My wife is in Idaho now and I'll be headed up there in two weeks for the summer.
A very good eight days!
Made a bbq for my 2 NORMAL Kids and grandson and then off to the community pool:-)
pancakes “for” the husband...
What a fun day! Sounds like the NW weather is pretty bad now...hopefully there were some sights to see.
“wanted to finish his work.”
Good hubby!
The USGA always holds the final round of the US Open on Father’s Day, and I always cooperate by watching it, as I’m doing right now. DeChambeau leads Rory by one.
It’s one for the books. My baby girl is getting married tomorrow, so LOTS of relatives around. I started a brisket smoking at midnight and just took it off the smoker 13 hours later. Back from church and should be able to relax and watch the chaos for a few hours now as EVEN MORE show up here.
Awe...how wonderful! Our baby girl got married two years ago, June 18. It was absolutely magical! Congrats to you, her and the entire family. What a wonderful Father’s Day gift. Nothing like the chaos to warm the heart.
Had to fly above the clouds from time to time but during letdown there were some great views.
I made hubby a nice late breakfast/brunch this morning. I made cheesy scrambled eggs filled with sautéed mushrooms, shallots, a mixture of Swiss, Guyere, and Jarlsberg cheeses, freshly snipped French tarragon from my herb garden, with a slice of toasted sourdough and bacon on the side. Oh, and baby potatoes with dill, too.
With a late breakfast like that we skip lunch and will have dinner in a while. On the menu tonight is prime ribeye steaks, which he will grill (he’s the master on the grill). I’ll do the sides of taters, steamed broccoli with horseradish butter, and a salad. I’ll also be sautéing mushrooms with melted morel and leek Jack cheese to top the steaks with. Fine steak restaurants don’t have anything on us in that regard.
He has had phone calls and FaceTime calls with each of our kids and grandkids. Texts from every sister and brother in law. It’s pretty warm here today. We sat out on the deck earlier and there is a lovely breeze. Took a walk through the neighborhood, which is a daily routine. Right now he has the 2024 European Championship on. It’s like the World Cup but just European national teams playing. I like letting him do whatever he feels like doing. He’s a hard worker, a great provider, a devoted husband and father, and my best friend. He deserves a great day every day, but especially on Father’s Day.
Happy Father’s Day to all of you out there!
One hour of recoil therapy.
My frugal, Chinese wife, who doesn’t like Western food, had a coupon for a free Cheeseburger at a local chain. She took me there.
Tex Mex lunch with my grown kids.
Watching the Astros game.
Grilling some brats and jalapeno/cheese sausages for dinner.
“He’s a hard worker, a great provider, a devoted husband and father, and my best friend. He deserves a great day every day, but especially on Father’s Day.”
So sweet, FF. You put tears in my eyes!
I think 10 mg. Of Xanax did the trick. Thanks for your concern! lol
You aren’t supposed to be your own nurse, are you?
I am truly blessed to be married to him. It hasn’t always been easy, but we are great life partners. Still in love after all these years!
I got my father's day texts from the offspring this morning. Well get together soon to share time...
Working of course. I call it Family Day.
What happens on Freerepublic, STAYS on Freerepublic. *snicker*
My son and I went to the gun range
