The human is a nasty beast, willing to do bad things to others. Those rules and procedures slow things down, force people to think, apply certain tests that attempt to achieve consistency and an outcome congruent with basic values we have codified.
Even just Covid recently. Look at what some of these politicians and folks were advocating?!?!? Are things really so different today? People become savage when fear and group social -dynamics take over.

Democracy = mob rule. The majority dictating rights to the minority.
Constitutional Republic = The rights of the individual to elect a representative.
Such confusion about something so fundamental as our form of government can only be intentional.
I thought we were or are a Republic at heart. Certainly not a democracy. Going further, a Constitutional Republic and going further, add federalism. We elect representatives and we have an elected president and not a monarch or prime minister and so we are a republic. I'm not so sure about not having a monarch these days though. If we are a democracy why in hell's name are we led around by the nose by a bunch of elected representatives who now answer to nobody? They only play like it when it is time for election. If this is a democracy it is being done all wrong. It has been so morphed, confused, falsified and further mischaracterized I don't know what the hell we have become other than a failure.
It should also have consequences other than being painful. Very painful and very dire consequences. I think we are reaping those consequences now. We have lost the program.

They would not believe us. It is too complicated for them to understand. A Republic, a representative republic, is only for thinking people. Management and accountability of elected representatives requires thought and effort. We have little or none of either present in a lot of the population. We have also lost the premise of control, management and accountability. Why else would so many candidates be unopposed?
It is, but will anyone going to inform the ignorant what the truth is?
