The first extended stretch of summertime heat and humidity is on the way to the Northeast with temperatures expected to challenge records during the second half of June. Before that happens, AccuWeather meteorologists are expecting a round of intense thunderstorms in the region that could impact travel and outdoor plans just as the weekend gets underway.
The risk of strong storms will come on Friday in the East, following a few active days in the nation's midsection. As a cold front moves east clashing with very warm and humid air, thunderstorms will form and can turn severe, producing a variety of hazards to end the week.
After a brief cooldown behind the front, a heat dome will build into the region, promoting the hottest weather of the season thus far, aligning nearly perfectly with the official start of astronomical summer on June 20.

It’s been very mild in the Northeast so far this Summer, for a while I was fearful that Global Cooling was our issue. Some hot 90 degree days will be welcome, seems like last year that’s all we had on golf days :)
Here we go again. Anything that happens in the Northeast means Disaster!
Amen! Get over yourselves.
There is only one natural disaster facing the Northeast, Democrat led Government.
Might be an interesting test for all those EV owners who think they are the perfect solution to global warming. There will be competition at charging stations (provided the charging cables are still there) as the region explodes electricity usage just to keep cool and feed the technology appetite.
The solution for hot days, is more power production to make AC more dependable, and keep the power on. Yet “THEIR” solution is to go to solar and wind power. Throwing society back to 19th Century Holland.
Quit importing more people and build more clean coal powered plants to attract businesses. THAT is the solution.
I live in Connecticut and it was 47 degrees two days ago. It’s got to get warm at SOME point this year. Egads.
Nope. Summer comes at the same time every year regardless if there is a storm.
Here we call heatwaves SUMMER!!
Martha and The Vandellas were aware of heat waves way back in the early 60’s.
Don’t like the weather, wait 15 minutes!
Not a lot of homes with central air in Red England. Box fan sales will be spiking...
Will it be worse than the heat waves of 1896, or 1911 or 1936? I still remember the heat wave in April 12, 1972 Tulsa 102 degrees! Some had 106 degrees F.
Here comes Global Warming!!!
The Statue of Liberty 🗽 is buried in ice!!!
Uh oh, 🦧🦧🦧🦧 apes...
I am just ecstatic that the High Pressure Dome of Death has set up over Yankeeland. We had in all last year in Texas. And most years.
