The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recently approved an expansion of a respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine for use in at-risk adults over the age of 50.
Manufactured by British multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company GSK, this vaccine is the first to be approved for adults aged 50–59, targeting a virus known for causing severe respiratory issues, particularly in older adults and those with pre-existing health conditions.
RSV is a common respiratory virus that primarily infects the lungs, nose, throat, and breathing passages. It typically causes mild cold-like symptoms such as a runny nose, fever, cough, and wheezing.
“Today’s approval reflects the importance of broadening the benefits of RSV immunization to adults aged 50-59 who are at increased risk,” said Tony Wood, GSK’s chief scientific officer. “For those with underlying medical conditions, RSV can have serious consequences, so we are proud to be the first to help protect them from RSV-LRTD...”

Why tetanus when we have antibiotics?

HARD PASS
I don’t take the needle for any of that poison. If the CDC recommends it, I avoid it.
My youngest spent 5 days in ICU (10k/per day!) as an infant because of RSV. She came very close to death.
RSV kills the very young and the very old by drowning them in snot. When their O2 gets too low, they go into cardiac arrest.
I’m moderately hopeful about this vaccine since it’s been properly trialed and not given an emergency pass like the useless covid vax.
Because the symptoms are caused by a toxin from the bacteria. Once symptoms appear, you’re screwed. The antibiotics will help you clear the bacteria but not the toxin load. Maybe you’ll die, but if you don’t, you’ll have a 2-3 weeks of hell and wish you did.
It’s way better to prevent it.
Stay away from parades and drag shows.
Agreed. Similar situation with us, but with a grandson.

Spending money on this in an area where both the quality and availability of healthcare suck. No mention of where the money to pay for it is coming from.

If I recall, the first vaccine for RSV is what started putting infants in the hospital.
