Embattled conspiracy theorist Alex Jones this week asked a federal bankruptcy court to liquidate his personal assets to help him pay out the $1.5 billion judgment levied against him for his repeated defamatory statements about the 2012 mass shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, including his false claim that the tragedy was a “giant hoax.”
The move comes after the families last weekend filed an emergency motion in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas asking the presiding judge to order Free Speech Systems the parent company of Infowars, to sell off its assets and put the proceeds toward paying out the families Jones defamed. In the motion, the families argued that Free Speech Systems has “no hope” of coming up with a reorganization plan and has “failed to demonstrate any hope of beginning to satisfy the Connecticut Families’ claims.”
*** In his latest filing asking the court to convert his Chapter 11 bankruptcy into a Chapter 7 liquidation, Jones said there was “no reasonable prospect of a successful reorganization” of his debt. While Chapter 11 bankruptcy would allow Jones to retain control of his assets and create a debt restructuring plan, the increased administrative costs ultimately come with “little benefit” to Jones going forward, the document states.***
Under a Chapter 7 liquidation, a court-appointed trustee would oversee the selling off of most of Jones’ assets, ***The process would likely force Jones to sell most of his personal property, including his right-wing conspiratorial empire Infowars. He would not have to sell items exempt from bankruptcy proceedings, such as his home and personal vehicle, among other things.

Ultimately, it means that “ownership in Free Speech Systems is going to get sold,” Avi Moshenberg, another attorney representing the victim’s families told the network.

Lets play a quiz-game!
Is it Putin? Or is it the USA?
Lawfare against high-level political opponents
Lawfare against political opponents organizations
assassination of political opponents
controlled media promoting central govt narrative
arrest and suppression of independent media with large audience
weaponization of intel and law enforcement for political gain
lawfare against non-compliant corporations
How hard is it to reassemble what he had?
Better question is: Who is next? How many common Conservatives are being abused by the Democrats? Most don’t have a platform to voice their abuses.
This is unconstitutional as can be. Even if he is an idiot.
He's an idiot. But the last time I checked it was not against the law to be an idiot. Unless we no longer have the freedom of speech?
So what now? Does, this all mean that InfoWars.com won’t be operational?
It shouldn’t be hard. He has name recognition with a high number of people.
Whether he is blackballed by banks through intimidation is another question.
The result is the most ridiculous in civil litigation history.
yep...
And we were all victimized by the Crossfire Hurricane/ Russia Hoax.
Don’t forget the crisis actors!
They’re two parts, the original judgement could be argued was Unconstitutional, the Bankruptcy that is happening now is not and is following what the bankruptcy laws are, the same way people every day in American have to face up to.
Everything in the Bill of Rights is now conditional. You can exercise the “right” if they want to allow it. But you have to get their permission.
The peaceful J6 and pro-life protesters imprisoned by Biden deserve equal compensation.
The politically driven damages won by the plaintiffs were far higher than any conceivable actual actual losses. They were based on nothing more than revenge for hurt feelings, which is a form of speech censorship.
I’d love to see our Zeepers here participate in your quiz.
This is the dictionary definition of unconstitutional excessive fines.
It was stupid for him to call it a hoax, but free speech is free speech. Unless of course you’re a conservative, in which case you don’t have a right to free speech.
It is constitutional. The 1A’s free speech guarantee protects you from government retaliation. It does not protect you from lawsuits brought by private individuals.
As for the Alex Jones case, I’m neutral. He said some horrible things about private individuals. Do those things rise to the level of the judgment that was awarded? Eh, probably not. But I really don’t know. So I’m neutral.
He should start a gofundme site saying “Help shut down Alex Jones infowars site. Every $1000 donation wins you a free “I helped shut Alex Jone’s website down” sticker, hat patch, and pin”
Then just keep the money claiming that the needed funds didn’t come in in time to stop the site- use the $$ to pay off the laWsuit verdict
