I'm a little unclear on why NASA isn't interested in farside exploration, and isn't interested in putting rovers on the moon to explore (on both sides). I guess they figure (a) we know everything interesting about lunar geology from Apollo; and (b) no possibility that life ever existed on the moon (unlike Mars).

Putting a rover on the moon is (mostly) far easier than putting one on Mars. The main tech challenge would be having enough battery power to keep things from freezing during the 2 week lunar night. (Or you could go nuclear and make that a moot issue.)

You're a little behind the times with this post. The probe has already taken soil samples, taken off from the Lunar Surface, and is now in transit back to Earth to deliver said soil samples.

this stuff is such a joke. they cant predict the weather tomorrow, but can tell you what planet was boinking who when the other wasnt looking that are billions of light years away, yet we have no idea how planets are formed or where water came from unless we look on the back side of the moon. so the front side was a waste of time. and yet, even though we have never been there, we just know what its going to tell us. so we know what we are going to discover before we discover it! yeah okay, whatever.
