Back when I was young, I competed in and won a regional beauty pageant. I weighed 122 lbs., stand 5’8”, with long blonde hair and blue eyes. I was, at best, a solid 7.5.
I competed against women more beautiful than me, more talented than me, and I will be the first to admit it. I was actually shocked that I won.
Apparently I carried myself gracefully and blew away the competition during the question and answer session. I was poised, composed, and articulate. The most beautiful of the contests peppered her answers with lots of uhs and uhms, and the next top competitor was nervous and repetitive. A judge later told me that the Q&A category put me over the top because I received the top possible score from each of the judges. Up to that point, it was a horse race between the 2nd runner up, the 1st runner up, and myself.
I truly enjoyed my reign and tried to always represent my region with dignity at every event I attended.
The second runner up went on to win two years later.
Granted, this young woman is not a striking beauty. I guess I would need to see the pageant to determine what made her so special. Having been through it, I will commend her for her courage. It’s not easy putting yourself out there to be judged.
Show us some pics of your pretty self.
Your kind and understanding comment shows that you have not lost the grace that contributed to your win years ago. Brava!
I cannot comprehend the mindset in which this young lady wins a beauty contest, but like you, I commend her for her courage, and congratulate her on her success. I pray that she is able to lose some weight and improve her likely compromised health. Perhaps the rigors of a year of representing her state will give her that opportunity.
Again, thank you for your excellent comment.
THANK YOU.
And, wow! My sister competed in beauty pageants and they are not the walk in the park people think they are. The Q&A part does make a difference but sounds like you had the other parts sewed up as well.
I don’t mind at all this young lady winning - she will have a platform for a year and can inspire others to excel.
