She’s beauty, and she’s grace — that’s what judges thought about an Atmore woman who they crowned Miss Alabama in the National American Miss pageant.
Sara Milliken, now known as Miss Alabama, is a 23-year-old who competed for the crown for the third time over Memorial Day weekend.

I don’t understand this pageant. She may be a wonderful person and she has a pretty face but she is facing medical problems. It’s sad.
It shows that even a fat chick can win at something. But, I wouldn’t put money on how she’d do in the 800m race unless there was a hot dog cart at the finish line.

If you are a normal, red-blooded American, they are doing everything they can to troll you. Football, beer, pickup trucks, grilling, guns, the flag, hot woman…All they want to piss you off.
Neither will parts of Mississippi, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee.
The subversive in me has me rooting for her or the transgender from Maryland. If they want to change what the pageants have been about (not that I care at all) then they should go all the way.

Back when I was young, I competed in and won a regional beauty pageant. I weighed 122 lbs., stand 5’8”, with long blonde hair and blue eyes. I was, at best, a solid 7.5.
I competed against women more beautiful than me, more talented than me, and I will be the first to admit it. I was actually shocked that I won.
Apparently I carried myself gracefully and blew away the competition during the question and answer session. I was poised, composed, and articulate. The most beautiful of the contests peppered her answers with lots of uhs and uhms, and the next top competitor was nervous and repetitive. A judge later told me that the Q&A category put me over the top because I received the top possible score from each of the judges. Up to that point, it was a horse race between the 2nd runner up, the 1st runner up, and myself.
I truly enjoyed my reign and tried to always represent my region with dignity at every event I attended.
The second runner up went on to win two years later.
Granted, this young woman is not a striking beauty. I guess I would need to see the pageant to determine what made her so special. Having been through it, I will commend her for her courage. It’s not easy putting yourself out there to be judged.
