Charges dropped for Scottie Scheffler, who shares 'no ill will'

Criminal charges have been dropped against world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler, who said he hopes to move on from the incident that took place outside the PGA Championship earlier this month.

"I hold no ill will toward Officer [Bryan] Gillis. I wish to put this incident behind me and move on, and I hope he will do the same," Scheffler wrote in an Instagram story Wednesday, referencing the Louisville police officer who arrested him outside Valhalla Golf Club. "Police officers have a difficult job and I hold them in high regard. This was a severe miscommunication in a chaotic situation."

During a court hearing Wednesday, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O'Connell said prosecutors would not pursue the case and asked for the charges to be dismissed with prejudice, meaning they can't be filed again in the future.

"Based upon the totality of the evidence, my office cannot move forward in the prosecution of the charges filed against Mr. Scheffler," O'Connell said. "Mr. Scheffler's characterization that this was a 'big misunderstanding' is corroborated by the evidence. The evidence we reviewed supports the conclusion that Detective Gillis was concerned for public safety at the scene when he initiated contact with Mr. Scheffler. However, Mr. Scheffler's actions and the evidence surrounding their exchange during this misunderstanding do not satisfy the elements of any criminal offenses."

Read the article... witnesses say the officer wasn’t struck by Scottie and his injuries had nothing to do with Scottie.

Scottie had the right to be there... cop threw a fit, fell down, and committed a false arrest.

Scottie would have raked in 8 figures for a wrongful arrest.

“Good thing he did not mention his political stand”

Christian heterosexual married to a real female, just had a baby and is successful on his own merit......everything the left despises with every fiber of their being....even if he is in fact A political, because of those reasons the left would assume his political leanings whether he is or not.

Don’t bother.....some haven’t the capacity to admit they’re wrong and don’t know what they’re talking about......it’s a character flaw really.

He should sue. The distraction may have cost him the win.

“The best revenge for this misuse of authority will come when the PGA removes this venue from the schedule.”

And that’s why the charges were dropped. Not because he didn’t break the law when he turned intentionally into oncoming traffic to get into the course even though there were lights, high visibility cops, and lit up police cars in the roadway to control traffic. They were all there. This is not the first time a sport has threatened authority to get their way.

We have reports of crimes that have been swept under the rug for many years. Players beating and raping women have just disappeared before. Kobe Bryant, Ben Roethlisberger, Tom Henderson, Christian Peter, Mark Chmura, Dave Meggett, Lawrence Taylor, and there are many more. And these are just sisome of the battery/sex charges. Drugs fill another catagory altogether. The death of Carrol Rusenblume drowning was never looked into even though there was a witness to people holding him under. There’s many more. Just because the cops did their jobs on the front line still doesn’t make the prosecuters do theirs.

“The distraction may have cost him the win”

Did you see where he finished?

Last time I checked he was 39th after being in the top 5 before this.

Dude - comparing Sheffler driving on the median to rape and murder is a bit of a stretch. Carrol Rosenbloom drowning? Seriously?
😂😂😂

The punk cop was clearly wrong. He should not be a cop, period. The problem, other than making an ass out of himself, is that he badly tarnished the reputation of his city and they will probably pay a financial price for this misadventure. Shame. Shame.

“...comparing Sheffler driving on the median to rape and murder is a bit of a stretch”

I can find all kinds of crimes that athletes are involved in that are swept under the rug as an example of the special treatment of athletes. It’s no comparison, it just existance of crimes no matter what they are. But the ones that can be identified within the media are only the big ones. And judeing by the ammount of them, I think it is safe to assume there are others that are ignored of a lesser value.

Carrol Rosenbloom was mafia connected and was in debt to the families in different parts of the country due to gambling. His drowning was witnessed by a Canadian tourist on the shore the day it happened and that witness has not been identified by law enforcement in any reports by name and is no longer around.

But the information caused Los Angeles County Supervisor Kenneth Hahn to call on Attorney General William French Smith to look into implications that organized crime figures had fixed a dozen NationalFootball League games between 1968 and 1970. And Rosembloom was part of that investigation. If you wish to look some up, look at athletes attached to beatings, illegal gun possession and other acts of violence that compare to dragging a cop holding on to a car into oncoming traffic at a confined road that had a fatal accident in it. You’ll find them.

Your arguments are ridiculous.
The guy drove on the median.
Take the L and move on.

Here’s what the police report reads:

Scheffler, in an attempt to bypass the traffic, pulled into the westbound lane, where Gillis was stationed “in full LMPD uniform and a hi-visibility yellow reflective rain jacket.

That would mean he was on the opposite side of the road from the entrance traveling east and would need to cross the road to get into the club entrance.

The report said Gillis stopped Scheffler and attempted to give him instructions, but that Scheffler “refused to comply and accelerated forward, dragging [him] to the ground.”

ESPN’s Darlington said Scheffler drove about 10 yards before pulling over by the club entrance.

If you look at the tapes, you will see that the entrance to the club was not on the edge of the road but about 20 yards inside of the lane with a gate and film displayed Scheffler driving in that lane and had not reached the entrance yet when he was detained.

But, he did cross the traffic of the westbound part of the road after ignoring Gillis’ attempt to stop him.

Romines, lawyer, said “the miscommunication arose” because Gillis isn’t part of the regular event-traffic detail. “They are allowed to go through, that’s why they have the credential and the wave-through,”

And I suppose the presence of numerous police cruisers with lights on and high-visibility vests with traffic blocked off in both directions is not a sure sign that something is different?

From a previous entry.

“comparing Sheffler driving on the median to rape and murder is a bit of a stretch”

You don’t see this scenario as a major event but they booked him on a felony.

You can call this what you want, but it is just another time when law enforcement looks the other way for athletes because of the local income. And ponder this, they didn’t take him to court, the just dropped the charges. Happens all the time for numerous athletes for many different offenses. This is just another one.

But I’ll leave you with an article from ESPN which will give you an idea of what the real world is like:

https://www.espn.com/espn/otl/story/_/id/13065247/college-athletes-major-programs-benefit-confluence-factors-somes-avoid-criminal-charges

And this isn’t even at the pro level where the money is far more lucritive. I’m off this topic, have a good time.
