In case you're not familiar with the case and NO he did not hire hitmen (he was never charged, prosecuted or convicted for this) nor did he peddle Fentanyl (never mentioned anywhere in the case).

He does not deserve to spend the rest of his life in prison for creating a burgeoning marketplace!

Prayers will hopefully be answered.

His crime was creating a parallel economy the US feral government could not profit from.

What exactly was he prosecuted for, and what is the sentence he was given?

I agree with you, most people only go by what they see in the media about this guy, if you look into the case, you learn he never hired hitmen and no one was murdered.

He deserves to spend time in prison, but life without parole is way beyond the punishment he deserves. IMO, the reason the government gave him life without parole is he embarrassed them and once politicians got involved and wanted answers, his days were numbered.

The judge went above and beyond what even prosecutors asked.

And now no judge will hear the appeal.

So he’s stuck.

This is why the president has the power to make a remedy and this is a ripe case.

Please note: No one is asking for a pardon but to lessen the sentence to time served

He ran a website on the Dark Web called The Silk Road, he went by the name Dread Pirate Roberts from the movie “The Princess Bride”, on that website, using bitcoin, drugs of any kind could be bought and sold and shipped to you directly.

It was sort of like the Ebay of the Dark Web.

It was alleged he hired hitmen to murder rivals or people who might have ratted on him, although the government never charged him with anything to do with hitmen or murder.

He got life without parole, what did him in IMO was he embarrassed the Government and politicians, and they made an example out of him.

The worst crime you can commit is to cut into the government’s business.

Thanks. Just read his wikipedia page for background. Does seem a bit harsh, so a commuted sentence from Trump is okay by me.

He will still have his conviction for the rest of his life for his idealistic actions but he’s no danger to society and does not deserve to rot in prison

It will be 12 years then. I think it’s enough that is what the campaign is essentially saying.

He created (not alone) and managed the Silk Road platform, like an eBay, where individuals could buy and sell things; but often used to sell illegal substances, using anonymous names, addresses and payment methods like crypto.

I don’t think he deserved two life sentences and am not sure how involved he was in illicit trafficking beyond simply being one of the people who created and managed the platform.

“He does not deserve to spend the rest of his life in prison for creating a burgeoning marketplace!”

So, that’s what you call the Mexican drug cartels!

In addition to the jail time Ross Ulbrecht received, he also got a fine of around 183 million dollars.

The bitcoin The Silk Road accumulated were stolen by an unnamed hacker, this hacker was later caught and the bitcoins were recovered and eventually covered the fine the Ulbrecht was given.

He’s so, so lucky a leading presidential candidate has looked at the case and understands the difference.

We have truly come a long way

Though he ended up making (and losing control of) billions off it from bitcoin payments, no?

I agree & disagree at the same time.

He knowingly started a darkweb site, not just a website. He knew quite well what he was allowing to take place on that site was illegal, and that is why he started it on the darkweb. I suspect that he was allowing far more than just illegal drugs, but a double-life sentence + 40 years is way over the top, even if some of those purchasing illicit drugs died. If they would have charged him with child trafficking, and had substantiated the charge beyond the shadow of a doubt, I would not even hesitate to allow him to die in jail. But that sentence should apply to all who deal in child trafficking, even if it is child pornography trafficking. Same goes for any human trafficking as far as I am concerned.

Perhaps another 5 years in jail might be appropriate, with a lifetime ban of operating a darkweb site, with the penalty being death if he tries to go there again.

He does not deserve to have his record wiped clean at all.

I also think that Mark Zuckerberg needs the same treatment as Ross was subjected to, and that all profits he made off of his website should be seized for his role in the coup d'état of the 2020 election. Leave him & his wife penniless.
