The sports world was shaken up on Saturday when PGA Tour golfer Grayson Murray died at the age of 30.
The two-time PGA Tour winner had withdrawn from the Charles Schwab Challenge on Friday, two holes shy of completing his second round, citing an illness – he had been five-over on the day and three-straight bogeys, and +3 in the tournament.
Murray's parents, in breaking their silence on Sunday, confirmed that Murray died of suicide. "We have spent the last 24 hours trying to come to terms with the fact that our son is gone. It's surreal that we not only have to admit it to ourselves, but that we also have to acknowledge it to the world. It's a nightmare," they said in a statement.
"We have so many questions that have no answers. But one," they continued. "Was Grayson loved? Yes. By us, his brother Cameron, his sister Erica, all of his extended family, by his friends, by his fellow players and – it seems – by many of you who are reading this. He was loved and he will be missed."
"We would like to thank the PGA Tour and the entire world of golf for the outpouring of support. Life wasn't always easy for Grayson, and although he took his own life, we know he rests peacefully now." PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said he spoke to Murray's parents earlier Saturday offering his condolences, and they both agreed that tournament play should continue.
"They were adamant that Grayson would want us to do so. As difficult as it will be, we want to respect their wishes," Monahan wrote in a statement.
He had two wins in his career on tour, including this year's Sony Open in Hawaii in a playoff ...

CC, thanks for the immediacy of your honest recounting of what you met and over came.
Many of us have seen the poison of depression and what it can do.
Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Those who are successful never get a chance to figure that out... Those who aren’t, sometimes do figure that out and live out their lives knowing that.
I know somebody who actually shot themselves in the temple with a 22 pistol back in the 1970s... They ended up losing an eye and surviving and they’re still alive today.
When did you stop drinking?
I thought the vaccine killed him — just like it has killed every other person who died after taking it. Even if they were in their 80’s.
If anyone here is or knows anyone that is in the same rut...for the love of all that is good and holy...do JUST ONE KETAMINE TREATMENT at a clinic. If it does what it did for me...your life and spirit recovers.
AMEN ABOUT JESUS!
“vast amounts of cardio exercise”
In cases of mild to moderate clinical depression, possibly. Moderate to severe: No, this is not an avenue available to them.
Prayers and hugs and continued strength to you. MWH
Do you know this from personal experience?
"The only cures I found to that problem were Jesus (most importantly), vast amounts of cardio exercise, and absolute abstinence from alcohol (and other related stimulants)."I should have said that all three of those elements were required in my case.
No man, and especially betrayal-hypergamous trained women, in Western nations, are an island.
Well said!
So hard on the loved ones left behind.
It is very difficult to apply logic in these situations.
Ditto, except for the exercise. I never do that on purpose. I just work and play hard.
Thank you.
