Tennessee adults, children brawl during chaotic kindergarten graduation ceremony

Distressing footage captured at least 10 adults and children fighting during a Tennessee kindergarten graduation ceremony earlier this month, according to a report.

The chaos unfolded at Buckley Carpenter Elementary in Somerville, Tenn., on May 15, 2024, when tensions between two women in the crowd boiled over into violence, police told Fox 13 Memphis.

The adults, identified as Tyeisha Humphreys and Kierra Smith, were seen brawling down the gymnasium bleachers as witnesses tried to escape the madness.

Beyond the bleacher brawl, at least two other people on the basketball court exchanged several punches.

According to the outlet, Tyeisha Humphreys told police that she was attacked first while Smith insisted that her childhood acquaintance ignited the brawl.

Security video obtained by law enforcement allegedly showed Tyeisha Humphreys coming into the gym and taking a seat directly behind Smith.

Smith then reportedly moved away from her original seat and sat next to a father and his child, according to the outlet.

Investigators say Smith and the child then got into an argument, which allegedly led to the woman taking an aggressive stance, prompting Tyeisha Humphreys to run down the bleachers from several rows back and smack Smith from behind to start the fight.

Ronda Humphreys, the mother arrested in the fight, told Fox 13 that she was wrongfully arrested and saw her son was elbowed in the head by an adult during the melee.

Black people a hundred years or so ago were dignified, proud, and noble.

I don't know about 100 years ago but 60-70 years ago - and well before the Great Society - the problems were there. From a 1958 TIME Magazine article:

"They are afraid to say so in public, but many of the North’s big-city mayors groan in private that their biggest and most worrisome problem is the crime rate among Negroes.

Oh yeah, I’ve got family in Nashville so I know quite a bit about the city. It’s certainly got it’s problems, but Memphis is a whole other league.

I watched the second WTC tower go down in a motel in Nashville . I was working at the fair and woke up and turned on the TV. I never turn on a a TV. I hate it. But there was that airliner going into the tower right then.

What is it with black women these days?

Pretty simple answer...it's a kindergarten class, full of impressionable little girls and boys. What do they see? "Adults", including their parents, throwing down in a formal setting completely unable to comport themselves like adults. These little kids are exposed to such violence as a regular way of life...many of them anyway. I'm willing to bet many have PTSD from this. Is it any wonder that they then grow up and behave the same way? What else do they know? This is actually very tragic to me.

I just happen to know that the County School Board quashed a proposal for a charter school in the county...
