I wonder if the cause is that pedestrians don’t hear the EV.
Headline fail: an EV being more likely to hit a pedestrian than gas chariot is not the same thing as a pedestrian being more likely to be hit by an EV than by a gas chariot.
Is this saying that EV drivers are more into fisticuffs and regular drivers are more even tempered?
That is to also be blamed on the low common sense IQ of the kookoo kool aid inhabitants that congregate battery plug up land.

I had one sneak up behind me and almost get me in a parking lot. There needs to be a minimum noise standard for EVs in motion.
I run every day- you cannot hear the EV’s which is a problem....if you want to change sides of the road, avoid a pothole, move out slightly into the road around a blind curb i always rely on my ears to hear if there is a car around....you cannot hear these EV’s which makes it even more dangerous.
How about bicycles - any luck with them?

Maybe this is because EVs are 3 times as heavy... therefore 3 times as likely for the brakes to fail... and 3 times as likely to barrel right through barriers that would normally stop a gas powered car.
OR... maybe it’s simply because the pedestrians cannot hear them coming.

Another BS story. Hybrid cars have engines and make a loud “wine” when the move on electric power. Where do these people come up with this nonsense?
Almost got hit by one a few years back - it was turning the corner onto the street I was crossing, and I didn’t hear it coming.
We have a huge number of EVs here in Silicon Valley. My experience is the drivers love to flog their cars all the time. They love the high acceleration and use it very aggressively, dashing from stop sign to stop sign. If I obey the 25 mph limit in town, the EV drivers generally go nuts, tailgating and moving left and right to look past me. When I see one of those impatient people behind me, I enjoy driving a steady 24 mph and coming to a FULL stop at stop signs to make them even crazier
My hypothesis is that rich Type A crazy impatient types (“I own the world — get out of my way!) are attracted to EVs.
So besides not hearing the cars, was it noted that the rich, entitled drivers that changed from their Volvos, Audis, and BMWs to electrics are still obnoxious, oblivious, and crappy drivers?

My wife’s new Hyundai hybrid actually makes a sound when the car is in electric drive…kind of a Star Trek swoosh. In reverse the car has a back up dinging alarm like a dump truck.
By the headline’s logic, pedestrians are more likely to be killed encountering a hippo than an EV.
