Socialist propaganda website Jacobin was the subject of a hilarious community note on X when posting an article about Walmart’s first-quarter profits.
The site posted the article “Walmart Is Still Putting Ebenezer Scrooge to Shame” on Monday, May 20. It described the retailer as “infamous for its starvation wages.”
“The surge is a result of its strategic shift toward catering to affluent shoppers while its full-time workers continue to rely on Medicaid and food stamps,” the post added.
However, social media users were quick to point out the low rates of pay for Jacobin’s writers, who are only paid $0.07 per word.
This pay rate – for which writers are asked to complete at least 1,800 words – is at lower end of the pay scale for inexperienced, beginner writers. Alas, a worker at Walmart, who can enjoy additional company benefits, outearns the average writer in the Jacobin sweatshop when you account for the amount of research and editing it takes to complete a 1,800 word article.
That’s the thing about socialism; there isn’t any money in it.
Perhaps the AI that wrote the article has confused the wages paid to the slaves in China that make every last thing that Walmart sells with the wages that people in stores are paid.
I had similar conversations with my brain addled Marxist brother many years ago.
This is easy.
The author is a brainwashed young skull full ‘o mush.
The unions are SALIVATING to get into Walmart, so they constantly spread lies about the company. Walmart may have its issues, but one of them isn’t about keeping their employees on EBT cards.
Ultimately, most jobs at Walmart (cashier/stocker) are entry level jobs that SHOULD have lower pay because not much skill is needed to perform those duties. Entry level jobs pay entry level wages. It’s also an incentive to gain more skills so that you can improve your career and make more money.
“This is easy. The author is a brainwashed young skull full ‘o mush.”
The author’s line of thinking is parroted over and over on Reddit.
For sure.
Tell that to Bernie
“The author is a brainwashed young skull full ‘o mush.”
Why do you think Jacobin is NOT a “Socialist propaganda website”?
“The author’s line of thinking is parroted over and over on Reddit.”
Why are against calling Jacobin a socialist propaganda site?
1,800 word article is $126.00
Not bad if you are plagiarizing.
Bernie Sanders is a capitalist huckster who sells socialism to dimwitted college students. If it weren’t for politics he probably would have landed a job selling Volvos in Burlington.
I have TWO choices where I live for groceries - a Super-Duper Walmart or the Piggly Wiggly - a Wisconsin-owned chain of grocery stores. I shop both depending upon what is on sale any given week.
At the Walmart I have WATCHED the young woman who used to load my grocery order (started using it during Covid-BS-19 and LOVE it!) who told me she and her family were basically HOMELESS, and now, less than a year later, she is a Department Manager in the store! She is a hard worker and a delightful person. She (and her husband!) have pulled themselves UP the ladder in both of their jobs. He is in Construction.
At ‘The Pig’ as we affectionately call it, everyone beside the key Managers are either HS Kids or a Retiree looking to make a few bucks or looking to have something to do. Their Bakery is AMAZING - filled with retired Norwegian Grandmas who KNOW how to bake! I know the kids are making upwards of $15/hour. (I asked!) There are NO 30-something Wage Earners supporting families while working there. They all have REAL jobs. ;)
No one in my immediate area is starving to death working in a retail store, ‘Jacobin.’
No one in all of America is starving, ‘Jacobin.’ Even those that don’t WANT to work!
You get paid for what you bring to the job.
Retail is usually an-entry level job.
Gives you some experience for your next job.
“It’s also an incentive to gain more skills so that you can improve your career and make more money.”
Exactly. See my ‘Real Life Success Story’ in Post #14.
Unless it’s someone else’s money.
Walmart pays $14.50 per hour in rural areas I’m familiar with.
Overnight gets $1 more,
There’s more to it than the manual labor of stocking tons of freight. Walmart has been computerized for a long time.
Associates use company smart phones and scanners to interact with the computers in Bentonville to do a wide variety of tasks.
There was a time in my life after, ‘The Army’ where I was turned down for jobs I applied for. “You won’t stay - you’ve got too much on the ball. This job would bore you to tears.’
And Thank Goodness those HR People were right for once!
18 years of Garden Center Retail, Baby. Loved every minute of it as I clawed my way to the TOP...of the Compost Pile, LOL!
Thinking back, I laughed so much at my own boys when they were taking after-school jobs and such. They all thought they should be the CEO right out of the gate, LOL! Sorry, Son. You need to EARN it, first!
Now go clean out the Chicken Coop, LOSER! ;)
There’s plenty of money for those at the top, just as with communism or any dictatorship. It’s those that these evil systems claim to be helping that have little or nothing.
