Travis Kelce opens up on Harrison Butker as a Chiefs teammate and his speech

If there was any Chiefs teammate who would refer to kicker Harrison Butker as “Harry,” then you knew it was tight end Travis Kelce, right? Kelce let that tidbit be known in the latest episode of the New Heights podcast. Butker was a topic of conversation for Kelce and his brother Jason, the podcast co-host.

“I probably might be the only person that calls him Harry,” Travis Kelce said as his brother laughed. “I’ve known him for eight-plus years and I cherish him as a teammate…He’s treated family that I’ve introduced to him with nothing but respect and kindness. And that’s how he treats everyone.”

“When it comes down to his views and what he said at Saint Benedict’s commencement speech, those are his. I can’t say I agree with the majority of it or just about any of it outside of just him loving his family and his kids. And I don’t think that I should judge him by his views, especially his religious views, of how to go about life. That’s just not who I am.”

Kelce said his mother, Donna, and father, Ed, both provided financially for the family and were homemakers, too. “They were unbelievable at being present every single day in my life,” Kelce said.

Jason Kelce shared his thoughts on Butker, too.

“He’s giving a commencement speech at a Catholic university, and, shocker, it ended up being a very religious and Catholic speech. To me, I can listen to somebody talk and take great value in it, like when he’s talking about the importance of family and the importance that a great mother can make, while also acknowledging that not everybody has to be a homemaker if that’s not what they want to do in life.”

According to Genesis 29-30, Leah had 7 children before her younger sister Rachel had her first child. So it’s not a new problem.

And basically harry was saying to woman “don’t spread your legs for every guy you meet and you may end up a lot happier down the road. Nothing wrong with that.

I think they were trying to emphasize respect for Harrison as a person — which there’d be no need to do in the other situation.

Did he get a nasty call from his dipshit girlfriend after that?

There is a lot wrong also with — settling with just anyone too soon, or getting married out of pressure and then divorced (with kids) later.

Divorce is extremely bad, and alone the root cause of so many societal ills. Scripture makes clear outright with the words “God hates divorce.” Yet people of faith do it as much as everyone else.

The patriarchal order of God is as follows: Christ first, then Adam, then Eve.

If we just get Adam first, we will get the serpent also. And the venom spread ensues.

It’s a shame divorce is just as common among the faithful. Both Taylor and Travis seem to come from good stock and want to wade carefully before committing to each other. Both have divorced yet amicable, supportive parents. Both have peers who are famous or not famous in varying seasons of life. I am sure they have seen and learned a lot, and can come to their own healthy conclusions.

Jason brighter than Kelce: Jason Kelce shared his thoughts on Butker, too.

had unknowingly gone through menopause prematurely

Oh dear! Hopefully this was redeemed in some way and they are enjoying a beautiful marriage.

And kind of on topic...but some of the most moving videos I've viewed on YouTube are of young couples locking eyes with their adopted newborn for the first time. OMG. TEARS. It's a miracle of its own.

I think one of the reasons behind the outcry to Butker's speech was precisely due to individuals who find themselves in situations like the couple you mention. Women in particular bear a lot of needless guilt, shame, and pressure regarding things ranging from miscarriage to infertility, to not having a perfect "natural" birth experience, to formula feeding instead of nursing, you name it...It's bad enough when the judgment comes from the mommy war brigade. So without meaning to, they are hearing Butker's words out of context through that prism.
