—”I love lobster but I will NOT be eating any cicadas!

—”. Early settlers found lobsters to be plentiful and a valuable source of food during difficult times, and they became known as the “poor man’s protein”. Lobsters were often fed to children, prisoners, slaves, apprentices, and servants, and were also used as animal feed and fertilizer. In Massachusetts, some servants even included stipulations in their contracts that they would only eat lobster twice a week.
