They loved the Nazis until the Nazis attacked their even more beloved Soviet Union. That is when they really lost their minds.
Sadly universities are full of people who firmly believe they should be in charge of things. Because they are so smart and all. Better then those little people. Who need to be firmly led in the direction that is good for them. And punished when they do not worship and obey.
This is nothing new.
