I'm at Seatac Airport (SEA) at the gate for my 10:00 A.M. flight LY9468 through Newark to Tel Aviv. I'm volunteering for the IDF through their organization "Sar-El". Usually, volunteers do warehousing work on base, live in the barracks, and eat with the soldiers.
I believe in transmogrification. For three weeks, I'm freeing up an 18-year-old Israeli kid with an M16 to go into Gaza and kill ham ass. I'm 62 and fit, and I can do the warehousing work that a soldier would otherwise have to do, and they can go to the front. Through the magic of transmogrification, I'm on the front lines of the fight for Western Civilization against the savage for 3 weeks.
You can do this too! Here's the Sar-El site:
SAR-EL - The National Project for Volunteers for Israel
https://www.sar-el.org/
Here's their Purpose statement:
"What is the purpose of Sar-El? Sar-El supporters come from around the world and from within our country to contribute to the security of the State of Israel by assisting on IDF bases in a logistical support role.
It is a unique volunteer experience fostering new friendships, greater understanding and the creation of a cultural exchange between Israel and the volunteers’ home countries.
Sar-El welcomes friends of Israel as volunteers, many of whom become “goodwill ambassadors” for our country. We are the only volunteer program that situates volunteers directly on IDF bases to work side by side with our soldiers."
They make this reasonably easy to accomplish. They have 1, 2 and 3 week programs. You have to get there, and arrange your own weekends, so it's not cheap.
There is a certain point in life where I cannot just flap my jaw and be a keyboard warrior. This is my time, and this is my way to do something concrete.
I'm arriving early, staying late, and have weekends off. I'll have lots of time to hang with the locals in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. My situational awareness is good, and the real threat level is relatively low (knives and car rammings are less frequent than shootings in Chicago!) It's my first trip to Israel, so it should be interesting.
Y'all keep the FReeper "allahu akhbar chorus" in line while I'm gone (they know who they are, and most of you do too). I'll be dark during the Israeli work week (Sun-Thu), as internet use is not allowed on base. I may check in on Friday or Saturday from the city. I'll do an after-action report on the plane back through Boston on June 10th, op sec being observed.
Keep up the good fight, and FREEP ON!

G-d Bless You!
Good for you! I hope Israel wipes out everyone ever connected to Hamas.
The video below is from Al-jazeera and is a compilation of those taken by IDF soldiers.
If you come across any of these infantile morons soldiers, make sure to give them a high five and a fist bump.

(For anyone clicking on the video, for some reason the FR posted link shows a partial screen. Hitting the refresh button removes whatever’s causing this and then the video can be viewed normally).
Run your gun not your mouth.
Wish I could join you.
As I was saying about the “allahu akhbar chorus” ...

The dread triple post from the slow in-flight wi-fi!
May the Good Lord bless you on this honorable mission.
Good for you, Miltie. I did this in February 1991 during Desert Storm. Worked in an industrial kitchen on an army base/police station in Hebron, which was just the job and place I happened to be assigned. I lost 12 pounds in three weeks from unaccustomed manual labor and healthy food — Jaffa oranges and red peppers were amazing.
I was a lawyer and so got to spend a day observing trials of Palestinian kids arrested for rock-throwing. (Different times.) I suppose they might have put on a show for the visiting New York lawyer, but I was surprised how fair the process was.
I did it for more or less the same reason you are: so a reservist could stay home with his family rather than be called up to make eggs and salami for 200. It was a terrific time and one of the few pure mitzvot I think I’ve done. You will be making a real contribution and will have stories for years. I tell people I was a Cook of Fortune.
I’m sure things are different now, but it might still be good advice to bring toilet paper. I think I still have my IDF-issued uniform and gas mask somewhere.
Be safe.
Stay safe my FRiend.
They advise (and I brought my own) TP.
I also brought enough wipes for awhile. Can resupply on weekends.
I figure if I just clean latrines the whole week, I’m okay with that. Any other job is upside!
Glad to hear from another SarElNik!
RESPECT!
It’s understandable that you wouldn’t want to address the actual behavior of IDF soldiers…as recorded by IDF soldiers!
And of course it goes without saying that posting a compilation of videos taken by IDF soldiers - is the same thing as supporting Islamic terrorism…
As for the photo you posted of the (likely Palestinian) baby wired with explosives - it serves as a reminder that at least half of fatalities inflicted by Israel have been women, children and infants.
As Hamas is to blame for its misdeeds, so is Israel to blame for its own malfeasance.
Historically - at least since 1948 - the lives lost and injuries suffered have overwhelmingly been on the Palestinian side. It’s not even close.
Today - May 15 - marks the 76th anniversary of the Nakba- the seminal moment in modern Palestinian history.
The Nakba (Arabic: النَّكْبَة an-Nakba, lit. 'the catastrophe') was the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in Mandatory Palestine during the 1948 Palestine war through their violent displacement and dispossession of land, property, and belongings, along with the destruction of their society, culture, identity, political rights, and national aspirations. The term is also used to describe the ongoing persecution and displacement of Palestinians by Israel. As a whole, it covers the fracturing of Palestinian society and the long-running rejection of the right of return for Palestinian refugees and their descendants.
The erasure of Palestine is what’s happening, justified by a twisted ideology of supposed Christians who believe that destroying a nation and its people will lead to salvation.
A really inconsistent approach for the followers of Jesus.
Dying excessively in a war you start is an islamist’s prerogative.
Feel free to join up with ham ass.
See you there!
