It’s always a restaurant apocalypse. It’s the worst business in the world to get into. Margins are tiny, whether or not you catch on is largely random. whether you stay popular is just as random. 80% of all new restaurants close in the first year, and even after surviving that you generally have a 25% chance of closing every year.
I look at eating out, going to restaurants as being a rip off for years now. It’s just gotten significantly worse in the last couple years.
Just last night I had an outing with some friends. We stopped at the only restaurant open past 8 (yeah, it’s a small town) I hadn’t been there for a while. A burrito was $29 and they raised their pints to $8 !!! I know the owner and he said he has to because his expenses are so high now and he isn’t making any more money. a $50 a head dinner use to be pretty fancy. Now, it’s a burrito and a beer. Let’s go Biden.
Inflation is nasty. It makes pricing your service difficult.
It’s becoming much harder to find a sit down Chinese place
and how many are now frequenting their local establishments again???
But about half the restaurants that were running 'before covid', including fast food places were closed, empty and derelict... and most of the remaining ones looked like they were barely hanging on; maybe a car or two in the parking lot, and that was around lunch time. The only food place I saw that was really booming was the snack bar in the Sam's Club; there was a line 30 people deep there.
I had reason to drive through about half the town's main roads, and saw ABSOLUTELY no construction going on anywhere. and about half of the office buildings and storefronts were vacant. Residential areas that were maybe aged construction, but well kept 10 years ago look like slums now.
Welcome to Starnesville. Or maybe I should say 0'Bidenville.
biden and the rest of the ruling elite don’t care. They eat off the fat of the land and will never go hungry. So they don’t care that their policies are destroying restaurants.
Democrat Doublethink : Destroy the food industry; Destroy real estate industry. Import more cheap labor to work in those industries.
They truly are insane.
Anyone else on the carnivore diet? I buy 80/20 ground beef, then portion it into ten ounce balls, then smash them flat in one quart freezer bags.
At $5.99/lb, that’s $3.74 per serving. I fry them in a teaspoon of lard, then I turn off the flame and add a pat of butter and Worcestershire sauce at the end. Plate the meat and pour the sauce over.
The average household of under 40’s has about $700 a month in student loan payments. They went two years without having to pay that. Then it came back with a vengeance last fall.
All of a sudden making a mortgage and having kids AND paying student loans is coming home to roost.
Honestly, this is where we were headed before the pandemic. The screaming interest rates and slow growing wages are eating up discretionary cash.
the ‘affordable’ mcdonalds burger will either be the bug burger or the lab burger they’ve been working on.
forcing us to eat their bs one way or another
